Shouty Luminous Green Car... & Chat
Evening all
Finally have my 8 running with no issues so no more mechanical bits (for now) and I can focus on the bodywork. Currently Velocity Red but with a bit of surface rust on the rear arches and a pretty chippy bonnet. The rust should be good once sanded down and treated but the problem I’m going to have is the colour match. 16 year old 3 stage red paint is a nightmare and after talking to the body shop techs at work (I work for a Ford dealer) have decided rather than risk getting the match wrong I’m just going to go for a complete change. Have looked at loads of options but have decided if I’m gonna do it it’s got to be something completely different and one off so have pretty much settled on a Pearl bomb. Solid black base, maybe 3 or 4 colours but mostly red (black and red seats), undecided on metallic flake or standard lacquer. Only thing is I’ve never seen it done on an RX8.
I’m about to go on furlough for 3 weeks in March and as the body shop is shut I have free run of the site to get it done. So basically just wondered if anyone has seen it either on an 8 or just up close on anything and what you think?

Re: Colour change...
If I was going for a full respray on my VR car then I would choose the latest Soul Red as that would look more original given all the existing red sections such as the engine bay, door shuts etc:

Re: Colour change...
Did think about Soul Red (and woodland green, black, even a red chrome wrap at one point) but like I said want something completely different and cost is a bit of a factor. I’ve spent about £3k just to get the car on the road and running properly in the last 9 months and as I only pay cost for paint, unless it needs mixed, and am doing most of the work myself it’s a very cheap option with the impact of being a one off. And if I don’t like it I can always strip it back and go again without worrying about how much I’ve spent!

Funny you should say that... one of the techs has just about finished his RX7 - in black and yellow! Not sure having a matching car would go down too well

Re: Colour change...
Black with a red flake would be superb if done well , Alfa Romeo and some other brands do such a thing , I’m a big fan.
Personally, I would also consider some alternative Mazda colours such as Radiant Ebony or Ceramic but they wouldn’t go that well with the red/black interior tbf

Re: Colour change...
I do love the black and yellow but with my red seats
There’s a bright purple flake MX5 floating around locally and it’s not the best paint job to say the least so has massively put me off going down that route.
For the pigment powders I was thinking a red to match the seats, green, violet and a little silver. Probably all metallic flake so I can just go for standard topcoat.
Far too many options and I’d prefer to just do it once so want to get the colour combo right!

Re: Colour change...
I am in a very similar position where I have carried out some paint repairs and cannot Geta perfect match and following all of the mechanical work then a full respray would be the next call. Do we have any recommendations of respray dealers in the SE - Hants / Farnborough area - happy to travel but not too far in current climate

Re: Colour change...
Furlough? If the taxpayer is subsidising that then the least you could do is let us choose the colour
Seriously though, do what intuitively feels right for you. Perhaps a subtle variation on VR. FWIW I love pearl whites and oranges (I had an S1 in an orange wrap, not my doing). I hate the red seats, IMO so dated and chavvy, and would find them even worse on a non-VR car, but each to their own.

Now back to one, a white R3. Gone but not forgotten: 04 Tit Grey 231, 06 Copper Red Evolve (231), 09 VR R3, 10 Aurora Blue R3, 06 Black PZ; RX87 13BREW project car ;-( ; 04 White with Greddy turbo conversion ;-(
Buying a used RX8 turbo is like marrying a stripper.
Beware - older people may be cr@p drivers but they can afford better lawyers

Re: Colour change...
In the future I'm thinking about respray colours. Really tempted by midnight purple.. Or a variation of a mazda red with different flake... Decisions.

Mine is going Soul Red Crystal this year, or at least a very similar candy red shade if not. I follow this guy on instagram who has a similar colour to the one I'm aiming for an it looks STUNNING: https://instagram.com/redhot_rx8?igshid=1itbrhxp2lamc

Re: Colour change...
Not an easy one at all! Was going to leave it until the summer so loads of time to decide but need to find something to do with my (taxpayer subsidised ) break. And at least if the 8 isn’t being driven for a week nothing mechanically can go wrong for a bit
I know I’m starting with black so will work out colours from there

IMHO you could a lot worse than the "Shinka" Black Cherry, not many about in that colour.

Re: Colour change...
You rang?
I recall a PZ being resprayed in Black Cherry a while back.......but you're in Peterborough too, so you definitley can't have Black Cherry!
I'd say the sensible (an an excellent) option would be Soul Red as it'll match with engine bay etc but your money, your car, your choice.

Re: Colour change...
As gorgeous as it is I’m not sure it would work too well with my interior - and definitely not if you’re only round the corner! I know there’s a blue 55 plate around here but don’t think I’ve spotted you out and about
Have decided to go red flake with black base coat. Probably boot lip/wing mirrors/badges/alloys black as well. Alloys will have to wait a while as they’re pretty mullered so won’t be doing them myself. Going into the body shop to order (acquire ) paint etc tomorrow so I can hopefully make a start on Monday

Re: Colour change...
Club joined just waiting for confirmation
Paint on order - no solid black hanging around I could pinch so have ordered (and paid for ) some to collect on Monday. Primer, topcoat and tools etc acquired and in the boot of my other car
Quick question (will be a few of those over the next week I think!) I’ve been looking for a spoiler for the car. Much prefer the way they look to the lip but can’t find one. Is there anyone here that either has one I could buy or could point me in the direction of someone that has? Condition/colour not important but would really like to sort it this week whilst I’m doing the rest of the bodywork

Re: Colour change...
Fingers crossed it’ll look the way I’m hoping but when it’s only costing me £100 and a few favours for an entire respray it won’t be the end of the world if not. One of the lads is off next week as well so may do the alloys if he’s got time and I’ve got beer
