Winter project black 192

Post by Markl17 » Sun Nov 10, 2019 9:56 am

Hello
I went and bought a 2007 Mazda rx8 192 in black with a bad engine. I trailered it home on Wednesday evening and rolled it in to the garage,Friday evening I did a compression test and not good, compression ok on the front rotor and none on the rear,so I pulled the engine and there is 2mm of end float so I think I am in for a world of disappointment when I split the engine.
The rest of the car is good bit of rust on rear subframe and lacquer peeling off the front bumper the interior is nice and clean with stone leather.my plan is to restore the car over winter.

Is the black metallic?

Hi warp oil.
The car is the normal black probably just ordered with that trim.
Stripped the engine this afternoon,I think I know why I had no compression on the rear rotor,it’s a bit of a mess.new housing and rotor required.

Hello everyone
I finally got some time in the garage today, so I thought I would get the rear suspension out as I knew it had a broken spring as usual the rear subframe looked like it has been at the bottom of the sea for a year.luckly all the bolts came out in one piece with out to much difficulty.i had two broken springs disc where knackered and the pads are down to the metal.
I think I am going to drop the rear subframe and get it blasted because it looks awful.

Hi
I spent some time at the weekend on making the rear subframe look a bit more respectable,I changed both rear springs and shocks and fitted new bushes to some of the arms.i had some decent discs and pads on the shelf so fitted those as well and with the painted calipers it’s looking a lot better.i think I will put a 6 speed gearbox in but I am not sure if the spline on the prop is the same.

Hi everyone
I’ve had a few spare hours today so I took the 5 speed gearbox out and got the 6 speed gearbox ready to go in as took the ppf
Off to clean and paint.i think I will put the 231 diff in to I assume it is better matched to the gearbox but this is only a guess,if they are the same let me know and carbon or steel prop?
I fitted a little bit of bling I had a chrome filler cap so cleaned it up and fitted it.
As for the engine I have got all the main pieces now except for the rear iron.i am sure one will turn up.

The S1 231 and 192 diffs are exactly the same.

Only the automatic and R3 are different.

The 4-port auto had a steel prop and some septics are also convinced that our 192's are the same, so you're in good company.

Hi
I have got quite a bit gone over Christmas surface rust under the car now finished and stone chipped sub frames cleaned and painted changed all 4 shocks and bushes as and where needed.the body shell is in good nick no rust on sills or wheel arches.i took the front calipers off to clean and paint,on one caliper a slid pin fell out,no rubber on it. One on the other caliper one pin was seized solid, needed the windy gun to get it out,I have ordered a new set should be here this week.
I now need to start thinking about the engine rebuild.

Hi
I got a bit more work done on the car today, first job was to put the 6 speed gearbox in so I slid it under the car got in the engine bay and lifted the bellhousing on to the cross member, then the phone rang so I answered had a short conversation with a customer then got under the car to find that the oil that I thought I had emptied out of the gearbox months ago was all over the floor.(old age I suppose) I cleaned up the mess and called it a night,I was not popular when I went into the house smelling of gearbox oil.
Back under the car this morning to refit the ppf not easy on your own.

Hi
I got all the work finished on the under side of the car today, brake calipers rebuild and back on the car.the brake fluid in the car was horrible probably the original so bled the brakes until new fluid come through on all calipers,so easy with a vacuum bleeder.
Now for the boring bit cleaning and checking all the engine parts ready for the engine rebuild.

You really need to flush the clutch line as well, as that will also have nasty fluid.

Thanks for reminding me about the clutch I will do it tomorrow while I remember.
Yes I am happy with it the only problem is I was going to sell it when it is finished but I am getting quite attached to it so it might have to stay that could be a delicate conversation with Sarah :-k
