Don't mind those. Wouldn't be my first choice, but that's only because I've found what I believe to be the perfect set of rims for an RX-8. But then I would think that, because they're on my car :P

Now I just need to go and get the damn things refurbished so they look as good as they should...
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

Go on then, I'll suffer the embarrassment. Not even cleaned recently, so they're looking really crap if you add in the flakey lacquer around the lip.

Ultralite Atec 2 rims, 18", charcoal spokes with diamond turned outer lip. I'd give you the rest of the measurements, but I don't know them off the top of my head, and I've lost the PM from Jay that had the details in it. Suffice to say, he specced them to sit flush with the arches, and every time I put the stock track or winter wheels back on now I think 'those look a bit pansy compared to the summer rims' :D

You're right in that they could do with a refurb! Or at least a clean

Controversially, not to my tastes :P But life would be boring if everything was!

What I really want - which the Cruize ones posted above are similar to - are the BBS rims that were on the RX8 Spirit R Tokyo Auto Salon car from 2012:

Indeed each to their own I suppose. Those aren't too bad, but IMO the spokes are too spindly. I'll stick with the ones I've got thanks :P

Taste is a wonderful thing, and a weird one. But as I said, if we all liked the same things then life would be boring (and there'd be loads of identical RX8s about, and nobody wants that!)

ok here goes, i intend to put 245 45 18 tyres on these, the rims are 8.5j 18 et45, any views on this combination would be welcomed. i will not roll arches or add spacers ,but would like to fill arch nicely. so what size tyres would work best if not these, thanks, rob.

Both sets of wheels are really nice :thumleft:
For my personal choice the second set just edge it for me. ( we’re all different ) :)
For the tyres I would say 245x40 rather than the 45
The 45 does increase the circumference and alter the gearing too much for my liking.
There will be plenty of photos with 245x40 tyres for you to see the stance.

Pete

Question:
For the stock rims is it possible to do a 2 colour finish? (E.g black background with gold pinstripes)

Yes you can, in fact that is very easy to do
The sky’s the limit really where wheel finishes are concerned.
There’s also that printing technique where you can have any design or picture.
There is some photos somewhere.
I am tempted to look at some engraving at some point perhaps.
A dedicated wheel picture thread would be good for people to see what’s possible.

Oh Pete I did think of engraving. I'm not too bad at carving and engraving. I paused on the idea though. Personally I think it would look bad ass. But it was the thought of dirt ingress into the detail might make it look messy.

Negative space style thing so black background over white/silver.. detail

If you filled the engraving with laquer you could achieve smooth finish with engraved detail.
Have a play with a spare wheel, you can use it as an ornament or coffee table if nothing else ;)
Round glass top would look ace

Not a bad idea dude. Some types of detail so tend to lose their depth when filled with clear coat but not a problem. I just won't use that technique.

My style is very NZ Maori Taamoko and wood carving influenced

I like the overkill style of carving. I like the look of it but takes a very long time and patience oh and a dump load of bits

Oh god the poor neighbors

Do you know any good places around South East of UK that do it?
