Re: Trackday Insurance
Next year I am keeping track insurance and road separate. If someone smashes me to bits on track I can't claim from them so claim on my inclusive trackday part of my policy with REIS then it effects my Road claims which I find totally bogus.

Re: Trackday Insurance
Please don't take offence at this, it is a practical point, not a slur on the car, but if you look on AutoTrader at the values of 53 plate cars do you consider track day insurance is worth the money?Bulldog wrote:Next year I am keeping track insurance and road separate. I would expect your excess to be in the region of £1,000 to £1,500. Minor damage is going to cost less than the excess and major damage is just going to write the car off.
There may be all sorts of reasons that insurance is worth it to you and individual drivers, you may have a fixed value agreement or also agreed cover for high value items, my point is that some drivers may be automatically taking out insurance when the the risk to value is not the ratio they envisaged.

My advice is always, if the car is worth less than £5k then; if you bend it, you mend it'.

Re: Trackday Insurance
Had a quota from REIS today for combined Road/Track Insurance for £1,045 which inc 4 Trackdays & 7,000 miles only That also inc 1 year NCB......... & the Road Quota Renewal from Sky Ins is £562 inc 8,000 miles per year & 1 year NCB
So my question to some of you on here, who are in the know with these things ,should I go for the REIS deal or keep paying for Track Ins everytime I need it during the year
Half of me says I should go for the REIS option & the other half says I should stick with Sky Ins & just pay the £180 each time I require Track Ins
Look forward to all your thoughts on the above

Re: Trackday Insurance
It depends on how may track days you want to do but £180 a go is a lot for trackday insurance.

If you do 4 track days then it,s a lot better deal combined

Re: Trackday Insurance
As conann said, get a quote from CCI to compare. If you are definitely going to do 4 or more trackdays then the combined deal is a better option for you.
Nige, I'm wondering if you are valuing your car too highly (for insurance purposes that is) and this is leading to the high trackday insurance? Unless you have an "agreed value" policy then, as I understand it, if you were unfortunate enough to total your car, you would only get market price less the excess (and the excess is high if you value the car too high).
The market value of my car is now such that I may not bother to do the combined trackday insurance with REIS next year, unless they offer an "agreed value" policy. To date, the small additional cost for me to take out a combined policy has made it a no-brainer; maybe my near 30 year NCB has something to do with it?

Re: Trackday Insurance
I'd say you're valuing the car too high for this purpose. I'd say the trade-in value of your car would be about £8000, unless it's an agreed value policy then you'll probably get a less alarming premium than you are now.

Hi Casey
You could probably get road insurance for £150 and not bother with track insurance. Do an extra trackday with the saving

Re: Trackday Insurance
Nige - hmm, that's odd, most of the historic quotes I had for "day" trackday insurance cover were for 1% of the value of the car with a 10% excess, so that would make your cover a more reasonable £120 per day with a £1200 excess. Surprised you've been quoted £180, but maybe things have changed?
I think Will may be right too about over-valuing.

Re: Trackday Insurance
On the subject or trackday insurance, we are due to launch our own product in the New Year if that effects your decision at all, for an RX8 with a higher end value the costs are likely to be around £75 per trackday. I'm surprised you are paying as much as £180 per session.GreySilver Beast wrote:Had a quota from REIS today for combined Road/Track Insurance for £1,045 which inc 4 Trackdays & 7,000 miles only That also inc 1 year NCB......... & the Road Quota Renewal from Sky Ins is £562 inc 8,000 miles per year & 1 year NCB

Re: Trackday Insurance
Have a look on AutoTrader at prices and also be honest with your self as to where your car sits in value. Of nearly 500 RX-8's listed there is only one over £12k and one other at £12k, all the others are less and these are dealer forecourt prices too.GreySilver Beast wrote:Ok thanks Will ,I will start quoting £8,000 approx then & also get REIS to revise there quota
I was always told use the term "market value" because unless you have a agreed price policy that is what will be used anyway.

Re: Trackday Insurance
Just had a quota from CCI following Pete's advice & they would insure me for 5 Trackdays based on 8,000 miles max at a value of £8,500 for my R3
So the figure is £735 all in figure
Martin did tell me that Trackday price is £80 per day if you go over the 5 Standard Trackdays built in...........
So need to make my mind up before 3rd Jan 2013

Re: Trackday Insurance
It sounds like CCI is the way to go, built in trackday cover and only £80 a pop for more trackdays, for what you'd have spent on the REIS Insurance you could do 8000 miles and 9 trackdays. That's a serious trackday habit!
