Robs Rex
Just been and picked up my new car. Its my second RX8, I had a 231 Titanium Grey 53 plate one just over a year ago.
More about this car, its done about 50k so far engine has had a compression test just before I bought it with the following results.
Rear rotor 8.3,8.2,8.2
Front rotor 7.9,8.0,7.9
The car has just had new coils, plugs and HT leads. It also had new drop links fitted, there are the usual signs of rust appearing on the sill where the two doors meet on both sides, and also some under the sill and around the high boot brake light. I will be getting these repaired and repainted at a mates garage at some point.
Coming from an old classic ford this rust really doesn't concern me at all.
Going to put a can of BG44K through it tomorrow as im off to pick my sister up in wales so around 200mile round trip.
Already got a full compliment of fluids as well.
Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil
REDLINE Synthetic Gear Oil 75W-90NS GL5
Fuchs TITAN XTR 5w-30
Motul Inugel Optimal
I like to know what I have in the car. Only other thing im doing straight away is giving it a full detail so need to wait for a nice day.

Re: Robs Rex
Went to Bangor yesterday, stuck a can of BG44k in with 160ml 2 stroke, started running much smoother. Got to Bangor unlocked the car opened the boot and started filling the boot with my sister crap and silly me put my keys down in the boot then shut it, and instantly thought, sh*t i bet the doors have locked them selves.
They had, so had to call the AA out, as soon as i phoned and mentioned RX8 they asked if it was flooded. "No just locked my keys in the boot".
They arrived in 20 minutes and took him 10 minutes to pick the lock. Great thumbs up for the AA.
Is there anyway to turn of the annoying self locking.

Re: Robs Rex
In my 192 as long as you open the doors once after unlocking it will stay unlocked. If you don't open them in time it will lock itself.

its a safety feature on all cars with remote central locking. can't be turned off.

Re: Robs Rex
Had the same experience with them, also in a situation where the car was not flooded, but it was reassuring cos I was petrified of having them work on the car, assuming that they would know nothing about it. When the bloke arrived and I got chatting, it seemed that they were pretty clued up on 8's all in all. They had, so had to call the AA out, as soon as i phoned and mentioned RX8 they asked if it was flooded.

Re: Robs Rex
Fitted a Bosch S4 026 today, starts much faster, car was still on the original battery so that just had to go, starter seems good and fast. Also cleaned under the bonnet and ditched the engine cover.
Next to do is a full fluid change, prob just go to my mates garage and pay him £30 to do the lot except the coolant which is too time consuming so i will do that.

Re: Robs Rex
Changed the coolant to Motul Inugel Optimal today, takes ages to clean the old fluid out, did 3 flushes with tap water then 1 with distilled water.
Had a blonde moment when i get home and took the coolant cap off, and it went everywhere. Topped it back up.

Re: Robs Rex
Thinking of these wheels,
i like the stealth look of black wheels, only others i fancy are these but big difference in price.
Going to stick Falken 452s on them as well, keep the original alloys for winter i think.

Re: Robs Rex
Yeah, just cant justify spending double on some wheels, the Tea, dynamics come in at 9kg so a 1kg per corner saving not worth another £900+ to save another 1kg with the OZ.

Re: Robs Rex
Did a bit on the car this morning.
Fitted some Lockwood grills in black. My bumper didnt have any black plates on the back side so fixed it using the two screws and some cable ties.
Also removed the washer tank and gave it a good clean with some bleech, good as new now. Total job time about 3 hours and im soaked as it kept raining.

Re: Robs Rex
I think the back plates are part of the original splitter thing and don't exist on the more substantial one you (and I ) have. The body shop which fitted my air dam they put my Lockwoods back on with cable ties too.robj20 wrote:And fitted some Lockwood grills in black. Re: Robs Rex
Looking nice there Rob I've also ordered a AEM intake last week (also in blue as it should match the cusco strut bar nicely) it should be with me on Wednesday so all being well it'll be fitted in time for Rotorstock .
What with Marky also getting one we should have looked at doing a group buy .
