It was a good day with bonus appearance from Martin and Alex Brundle. Not on track though unfortunately, just filming a piece in one of the garages.

Well what an "exciting" day. Second time on the track on my fourth lap, there I was going down the back straight where suddenly clouds of steam were coming out the front of my car. Then back to the garage to find out the problem, interspersed with a quick chat with the track officials confirming that it was not an oil leak, and an attempt to refill with coolant to then discover it was a bigger problem when coolant starting running all over the floor.

So that was the end of my track day with the next stage of returning myself back home and the car back to my local garage. The cost to return the car was not insignificant but that is the way of things. The garage has advised the radiator hose split and he has ordered a replacement. While he was looking around that part of the car, he also found why the aircon was not working and has ordered a replacement condenser.

Thank you to everybody for their help on the day. My special thanks to Malcolm, Alan and Sean who let me use their spare coolant which then ultimately washed the garage floor. My thanks to Chris for offering to take me home. Finally, my very special thanks to Sean who went out of his way to take me home. I was originally going to stay with my car when it got transported back but the AA then contacted me later in the day to say the pick up would be further delayed and there would be a break in the trip and transferring between transporters. This would have meant that I would not have got back until approximately midnight. The Snetterton track people were very helpful in holding the car key to give to the transporter when they arrived.

So the lessons learned here are as follows:

- RX8s do not like hot weather
- Bring spare coolant on a track day
- Pay attention to the water temperature gauge – if the needle is far to the right, reduce the revs and slow down!

So glad to hear you got home OK Robert - a big shout out to Sean for his support to get you there . That is what is so good about the people in this club .

As suspected then, is was a leak in one of the hoses into the radiator. At least it should be an easy fix and with the bonus of sorting out your a/c too!

Pleased to hear Alan got home OK too, with no return of the dreaded OMP induced limp mode.

Thank you to everyone who came along to make this a another very enjoyable day out at Snetterton, a few days after my 71st birthday and, checking back, my 100th trackday on my RX-8! The garages were a godsend, providing some shade and with a cool breeze blowing through occasionally.

My car, like a few others, struggled with the heat. I could only manage about 3 laps before I had either a coolant or oil temp warning alarm from my gauges, requiring some short shifting and some easing off the throttle. Not a day to set a fast lap. My best was a 2m 28.21s (almost 5 seconds off my PB of 2m 23.27s), set on my very first full lap of the day, where I was lucky to go out first of a long queue after a red flag and had a completely clear outlap and first lap. Even later in the day, with a clear track, the car wasn't happy with the heat and all I could manage was a few 2m 29.XXs laps. However, all very enjoyable in the challenging conditions.

Great to see Neil with his RX-8, its first outing at a trackday. Even Ann had what I believe was her first drive in a public Open Pit Lane trackday - and thank you for the photos too, Neil and Ann.

I hope everyone else got home safely. I was shattered when I got home, far more than usual after a Snetterton trackday. It's either advancing age, the heat or, more likely, both

I'll see some of you again at Thruxton in September I looked at the logistics of getting to Bedford on Monday 20 July, but with a big family event on Saturday prior, Simply Japanese on the Sunday and accompanied by Gwyn, it just doesn't work. But, It does give me time to look at sorting out the cooling before Thruxton, should these heat waves continue that long!

I thought that was him! He was behind me in the office and I nearly said to him, OMG you look the spitting image of Martin Brundle!

Although I hadn't put 2 and 2 together at the time, Alex Brundle was behind me in the signing on queue. He had small "Brundle Motorsport" logo on his shirt, so I just assumed he was an employee of a company, possibly one owned by Martin Brundle. We exchanged a few pleasantries about the length of the early morning queue and then the person behind him started a conversation with him. During that conversation it dawned on me that he was Martin's son! Running an historic motorsport business of his own, not owned by his dad, but I guess support by him. Sadly, I didnt spot Martin though

The 70s Celica they were filming with was lapping earlier in the day so it could possibly have been one of them driving.
