Just performed an oil change, on my gearbox, the redline that came out looked fairly clean considering its been in around 40,000 miles, a few sparkles a little build up on the magnetic plug but that's it, let's see how the rocket dog racing oil performs, box currently has 105,000 miles on it, redline kept in a clean container just in case.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Found a coolant leak coming from the expansion tank breather hose, right down where it attaches to the thermostat housing. For now, until I can get a replacement hose, I've trimmed the hose back past the damaged bit and reattached it.
Only problem is I can't for the life of me get the opened spring clip back over the end of the hose. Can't get it over the bulge at the join. Anyone have any tips for getting it over there? I've tried straightening the hose and even used silicone lubricant to no effect. For now I've moved the spring clip up away from the join.
While the hose feels wedged on I'm nervous to drive it like that. In case I can't get the clip back in the right place is there an alternative fastening someone could recommend?
Also ordered a replacement front lower control arm from Mazda this week, due to a failed bushing. As usual there's no stock in the UK so place your bets when they'll ship it in.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
You need to squeeze the ends of the overlapped clip together, to make it a larger diameter, slide it in place and release.
You can get a special tool to do this, though slip-joint pliers, or even ordinary pliers also work.

I have done this with a cable tie before. squeeze together off the car, cable tie the 2 ends, reassemble joint, slide clip to correct place and cut cable tie whilst holding in place.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Picked up a new front lower control arm from Mazda to fit. Was a reasonable £250 inc VAT.
Never ceases to surprise me how weird their pricing is. They quoted me £66 + VAT for a new coolant breather hose. That's maybe 50cm of hose. Paying that seems silly so I'll make my own. Can anyone recommend a quality hose supplier?
Pic of the new front right lower arm below in case anyone needs one for an R3 and wants the part number.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Went for a pub lunch today, on the way back managed to red line in 2nd and 3rd on a nice long straight, my old engine managed 82 by the end of the third gear, today the new engine was at 88 on the cars speedo (which in the real word is 79 and 85) respectively but that's a big difference between the 2 engines and is an increase of 2mph in the last 1000 miles on the new one, I don't take the engine to the beep often prefaring to change at about 8k but the beep is a good benchmark of the available speed.
It could just mean that old engine was showing its age.
I know there could be many variables but is this what others are getting in 3rd at the beep for a 231?

If the hose is not moulded with a tight bend anywhere then a straight length of the relevant diameter from a motor factors will be fine.New Duke wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 1:51 amPicked up a new front lower control arm from Mazda to fit. Was a reasonable £250 inc VAT.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Beep is between 90-95mph in third on a 6-speed box with standard diff and tyres. If you're seeing 115mph then you're speedo is very optimistic or you've changed the diff.
Smaller diameter tyres, as sometimes used on track, would lower the gearing but the speedo would over-read by the same amount; so it would still be showing ~95mph on the beep, though you'd actually be going slower.
