Mine only turns down to 15 as well. The temp reading was from a thermometer probe stuck inside the air vent. So 6 degrees was the air that the air con was chucking out, not the overall cabin temp. It probably warms up once it mixes with the warmer air in the cabin.

It did feel chilly in the the car, but I'd assume not lower that 15 degrees. Hard to tell on such a hot day even in me garage!

I totally just sat in the car today with it idling in my garage with the air con on. To bask in the cold air. LEAST efficient air conditioner ever

Had the garage doors open of course for ventilation. But also had an electric fan on full outside the car pointing backwards to push the exhaust fumes out the rear garage doors! Greta Thunberg would be very grumpy with me

I reckon I probably do need regassing of my RX8 A/C after all these years but it's done very well. I'd say it still blows cold but not as cold as it used to.

However readily admit even now it still beats the AC in my CX5. The CX5 uses some eco AC modes by default but even on full AC I don't think can keep up with my RX8 after almost 15 years!

Haha really? Is the CAT resonated or a non resonated version? Just goes to show how free flowing that CAT is.

The newer versions with a resonator do tone it down a bit although the CAT itself is the same

The cabin thermostat display only goes down to 15°C, at which point the A/C is on full all the time, unless the PCM decides otherwise - it will still cut in/out at idle to manage revs and disengage if you floor the throttle for maximum acceleration. - but otherwise it just gets as cold as it can.

Obviously, once you've displaced the bulk of the overheated air, further cooling is most effective on recirculate.

CAT none resonated louder than the RB dual deCAT, I suspect the 200 CEL CAT with resonator would be on par.

Is it all that hard to take it back and properly re-coat it all? I guess it's off the car so worth doing for your spare. Or is it entirely dependent on the rust condition? :-k

I'm not sure. I've given it a good going over with a hammer and screwdriver and not make any holes. I am likely concerned with some of the damage I did getting the adjustable bolts out.

I think a bit of welding to tidy up a couple of niks from the angle grinder it might be okay. ImageImageImage

Amazing, thanks guys :thumleft:. I don’t mind spending £35 on 4 new nuts, or less if Big Pete has some in stock ;). Will sort after getting these wretched Mcguard things off.
I have these from Clive and like them. They do the job, are cheap and more importantly are 19mm so you (or a garage worker) are less likely to scuff the wheel. The standard ones are 21mm.

Oh nuts.jpg

I dunno if he still has any in stock anymore. But might be worth a call or email.
Sorted curtesy of my local TW White & Sons which had the relevant Mcguard key and OEM bolts in stock, 10mins down the road from me :).

Touch less wire, touch more gas and a bit more prep and you'll be reet. Granted I haven't held a torch in at least 5 years.

In other news, my car suddenly won't idle properly when cold, randomly hunts, bogs and misfires. Yay, coils came out yesterday and all looked OK, checked all the battery earth's and terminals, they're all clean and tight.
Guess I'll be cleaning the MAF, ESS and checking the plugs today then.
Expect a post about where to source D585s shortly, he says, regretting having the dwell changed.

Just to note on ECU settings, you can now send your ECU to us for a remote mini map and get those dwell settings back to OEM.

I have access to a car transporter, probably take it back down to TPS and have a compression test done at the same time. When in Rome.
