PZ shock repair
Sadly this is what happens when you pay a premium for (an assumingly decent) global shipping service,
label your parts correctly with commodity code of ‘Suspension systems and parts thereof (including shock-absorbers)’
and they ship your package through a third world country (where the population has restricted mental abilities) IE some inbred, moronic, american asshole gets involved.
I mean F*&^% me, there was just no need for it to happen, or any reason that there should be any concren\flags raised.
Does anyone know if Blistein would be able to repair?
If yes and you have some direct contract (and don’t mind sharing) I would appreciate it.
Apart form the hole and external placement of the oil\gas, it is\was a brand new unused MCAF1232RD

The bad news is that they don't have any repair agents in NZ.

What's happened to it? I guess that's the oil all leaked out but what's with the hole? Sorry, kinda clueless about these!

Best guess is a US customs office scanned it even though it was not destined for USA
saw there was oil in it, so drilled a hole to make sure it was oil.
Or more likley they drilled the hole to meet their quota
or just to P*** me off - I suspect this is the real reason.

Hey Pete,
Not surprising I can't believe it either…..
DHL NZ are going back to DHL UK, but I suspect the response will be evasive at best.
I guess 1 option is to question their payment with the credit card company,
DHL UK chose the shipping route, the package was in their care and it was correctly labelled.
Interestingly the last time I purchased items off shore I had to pay a NZ customs bill before release and I didn’t get contacted in advance this time
maybe process has changed as it was some years ago.....
Or maybe internationally customs share their &^%$ ups and has a special we destroyed it code.
Anyway life’s too short to worry for long, and I have started to cool down.
I have a nearly full set of PZ suspension, most of which now has an extra layer of protective oil.
Hopefully the Bilstein AU guys can rebuild\repair and if not I’ll be looking for a PZ shock.

Meanwhile,
I am going to need clean up the components that didn't get 'mutilated' and dump the oil soaked packaging (and check for less obvious damage).
I hadn't intended to fit the kit immediately (and sure as hell can't now), so looking for recommendations re; protective coatings for post clean storage?
Any thoughts\suggestions?

Might be worth giving GAZ shocks a ring Email.
Mate had a non GAZ shock rebuilt by GAZ.

Well, 3 weeks into the fiasco...
DHL are yet to acknowledge that I am a customer who shipped a parcel (insured) with them,
let alone that they will take any responsibility\provide any compensation.
Bilstein AU referred me to Bilstein NZ (who apparently exist), the local service center advised that 'No Bilstein shocks can be repaired' and the NZ HO did not return my follow up phone call.
Contacting Bilstein DE\HO via their website, eventually (with a bit of prodding) resulted in an email from them with the URL to their website;
Luckily I appreciate a good joke.
But tomorrow is a new day and I am ever hopeful (and apparently a slow learner)....

Go up the food chain I would say, start messaging customer service at both companies on things like linkedin and Twitter, the latter normally gets things moving I find, as it's public and companies will shut that kind of public embarassment down ASAP.
It's immensely frustrating I'm sure, best of luck with it. If you don't get a result and it's a front I have a spare pair in my shed which have been used but will be absolutely fine I'm sure.

BILSTEIN REBUILD SERVICE
Bilstein has a dedicated technical centre in the UK. They can help you with a wide range of services concerning Bilstein shock absorbers such as rebuild, servicing and custom build.
As a guide rebuilds start from £80 + VAT per unit, £100 + VAT for a sport unit. In many cases its more cost effective to simply replace with new, especially if additional components are required.
Bilstein UK would have to inspect the unit to confirm costs.

It'd be way more than that given there's a hole in the casing and swarf with potential valving/piston damage. Like it says there, cheaper for a new unit, if they were available.

Thanks Guys, appreciate the moral support.
I am considering social media, as have pretty much given up on direct contact and seeing a resolution.
Regarding repair\replacement I am being to think UK may be my best option, and if it's required easiest place to source a replacement case\tube.

Clearly the Sales agent in NZ aren't capable of repairs but we knew that anyway, but Oz is meant to be up for the job.

Some good news(ish)
Took another crack at Bilstein (AU & NZ) ended up with quite a helpful guy on the phone from NZ service,
not likely to be cheap, but nor is numbing the pain n drowning my sorrows......what's a boy to do.
Also finally got a response from DHL that wasn't a denial that I existed and included a contact email for claims.
Waiting now on claim denial based on 4 week delay in contacting them, or some other trivial reason.
Happy times indeed
