Hi, new here and have a starting question!
Hi,
So I've had my RX-8 for about three and a half years now and have not had any issues with starting at all. She's always fired up immediately and never turned over before starting.
However two days ago and I turned the key to start her and the engine actually turned over two or three times before firing up and starting. I have since started and drove her a few times and have the same thing every time I start the engine.
I'm kind of hoping that someone might be able to give me a heads up as to what could be the cause for this.
Thanks.

Re: Hi, new here and have a starting question!
Could be low compression the symptoms of which are the car struggling to start when hot.By the way were those starts hot or cold? If cold then it could well be your battery needs replacing,if they were hot starts then it would be a good idea to get a compression test done by a rotary specialist
R3 GONE, FUN WHILE I HAD HER BUT NOW LOVING MY 25TH ANNIVERSARY MX5.... MODS INBOUND

Could be anything from poor ignition, bad battery or starter, bad connections, dirty sensors or just heat soak

Hi and welcome to the forum,
It is probably down to coils or plugs ( but could be something else as well )
I would advise : Run a bottle of Cataclean through the fuel tank and then get the plugs ,coils and leads checked.
Regards
Pete

Hi, thanks for the quick responses. So it's the same whether the engine is hot or cold, same turning over two or three times before firing up. The battery was replaced about 12 months ago so shouldn't be that I don't think.

Clean your maf and eccentric shaft sensors, cheap and easy to do, then start looking into plugs, leads and coils (when were they last replaced?)

I would recommend Ryan rotary performance coils (don't go cheap or you'll regret it) they also do all your service parts

Worth checking that the battery terminals are tight.
It's also possible that the starter is dying.
How old is the car?
How many miles?
Has the starter ever been replaced?

Not sure on the starter being replaced, I would guess at no just because most of the general stuff I've had done has been the original parts that have been replaced.

Use an ODB2 reader ( like Torque app and a dongle) to check the engine revs on the starter.
