PZ springs

Post by Jeags »

Hi all,

Put the 8 into local garage today to get tracking done and he said he couldn't do it yet due to a broken rear spring (driver's side). I know these are common faults and would like to replace them with the OEM PZ springs. I looked on the shop here and it says the rears are out of stock, any ideas where I can pick a good new set up from?

Cheers,

Joe

The Club shop was the only stockist for these parts.

Your only remaining options are if someone bought a set in the group buy and is prepared to sell as their plans have changed, or someone replaced their original springs with new and still have one unbroken original spring you could buy.

Do you have PZ suspension on the car already? If not then you cannot fit the PZ springs as seats are different.

:whathesaid:

One of the problems with Tapatalk is that it doesn't show the profile info, so I'd assumed you had a PZ.

Unless you're running the bespoke Bilstein dampers from a PZ then "PZ springs" aren't an option.

If you're running the original UK-spec suspension then that's actually "Mazda Sports Suspension" and you need springs to match that.

Don't go near motor factors, ECP, or anyone else that lists "replacement springs", as they will try and sell you the same spring regardless of which suspension you have.

Having had one rear spring break then both should be replaced, since the other would have been over-stressed.
I would recommend looking for a good, low-mileage, used pair from someone who has either upgraded to something totally different, or breaking the car for other reasons. Start with a call/message to BigPete.

You could fit complete PZ suspension, though this would have to be front and back, since the ride heights, spring and damping rates are different.

Yeah, the car is a prodrive version. Will hopefully find a solution soon, don't really want to change the suspension from OEM.

Just a thought, but would it be worth asking if a garage would weld the break? It's at the very bottom of the spring. Just a thought but I'm not sure on how that would affect the spring?

You can't repair springs by welding, since the heat means they don't "spring" any more.

I know someone that had a leaf spring on the back of their motorhome welded.

Thankfully it collapsed before he even got it out of the workshop.

What do we think about this?

http://essexrotarystore.com/product/tei ... -for-rx-8/

I doubt I'll be able to get any springs so it looks like I'll have to go for a new suspension. Just not sure whether to go for the above, or opt for the full PZ kit on the oc?

Cheers,

Joe

I had the street basiz then went with meister atm tein flex z. All have plus and minus.
But street basiz is good for the money but not adjustable damping. If you spend a bit more you can have coil with more adjustability.

I don't think the springs are too bad for like the outer covering. But I won't know until I have them off the car. No clue what the mileage is like but I found them to be an excellent ride on the road etc. They'll be without top mounts and possibly gaiters/dust covers as I'll née those for the replacements. :p

It does seem a shame to compromise a PZ, if there's any way to avoid it.

Not that there's anything wrong with the Teins but the suspension is absolutely a key element in what makes a PZ a PZ.

It is indeed. I'm sure once jeags isn't on apprentice wages he'll be in a better situation to sort that out. I'll tlbe taking them off after the cars actually moving again. Either next week or the week after probably if you aren't in much rush?

Yeah, not in too much of a rush. Mot November so needs to be done by then. Plenty of time. Does the oc still stock any PZ suspension sets after they bought some? Was considering that, but not sure if I've been a member for long enough or can afford it. The teins are about £400 new so if it's only a bit more for a PZ set from the shop, I think I'd prefer that, was obviously why I favoured a PZ. Again though, don't know if I've been a member long enough yet! Just wondering whether it may be best to buy a new set, at least I them know it'll last well and hopefully, make the car feel like new.
