They look like kPa. So you would divide by 100 if so, which will give you bar, which unless I'm mistaken is what mazda testers would usually report in. Would be good to ask the tester what units for sure though.

Normalized to 250rpm (cranking speed was 273). Should be kPa. I did ask him, he said it's an okay result, one is weaker than the other but it should be okay for a while but unfortunately some repairs took longer and I had to dash once it was all done. Just curious as to how these results would be converted to this table:
https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/new ... _chart.png

Cuz if all I need to do is divide the values by 100 then the back rotor is failing, and the front rotor may not even exist...?

Using foxed.ca I got these results:

Front rotor:
(In bar)
5.04
4.85
5.10

Rear Rotor:

6.48
6.50
6.34

Normalised to 250 and altitude of 20m. Based on the RX8club chart its big failure on the front and a slightly less worse fail on the rear... But the yanks are a bit... Compression happy for what is/isn't a runnable engine.. Some people have run worse engines for a while until they go pop.. Saving up wouldn't be a bad idea at all. The difference between rotors especially on the front one is a bit of a worry. Which is a shame because the rear rotor is in pretty okay shape!

Update, just got this e-mail as a follow up from Essex Rotary:

Outcome of the test
Fail
Due to the low numbers on the Front rotor and the out of spec Rotor Difference we have not other choice but to class this as a fail, however after looking at this test compared to your test 2 years ago there is very little if any difference in the compression. There is actually a better rotor difference now with a better front chamber difference that there was on the previous test.

Guess premixing and Cataclean did help a bit...still, better start saving up.

The chart that Mazda produced
compression testing chart.png
related to tests performed by US dealers, where a potential warranty claim may be being made for a replacement engine.
Anything below the line is considered "a fail" and qualified for replacement.

However, they were talking about failures within the warrant period of 3 years or 36,000 miles.
Certainly failures at much lower mileages would suggest a manufacturing/materials fault.

Having a 10-15 year old car with twice or even three times that mileage fall below the line isn't an ideal situation but also isn't really "a fail".

Thanks. It's a 55 plate with 81k on the clock and no prev rebuilds. I'm genuinely surprised to see those numbers cuz the car starts without any problems and pulls great, one of the most problem free pieces of machinery I have. :-k

Today I booked the transport to move my car from the seller in Edinburgh to Chris Holmes to have the interior swapped and, depending on how difficult it will be to remove the wings, have the lambo door hinges fitted.

I started to get an odd feeling from the seller who is difficult to reach while I'm overseas and is slow to answer questions. I am now also having to apply for the V5 myself as he can't find the one he received when he bought the car! Hopefully Chris will be able to take a good look and give a thorough appraisal of the car's condition when it reaches him.

Drove it today. That shouldn’t been an event, but not happening that often these days.

Despite the ongoing soft lock, several nice cars at Tatsumi PA.

Finally removed the engine & gearbox as a unit by dropping the sub-frame and engine as a unit then undid the engine mounts, pulled the sub-frame clear, lifted the engine with a jack under each mounting bracket and pushed a 4 wheel dolly under it with a chock under the gearbox. Along the way earlier the jack under the gearbox had slipped out allowing the tail of the gearbox to drop and out came all the gear oil!
With the engine-gearbox unit out of the way I then needed to roll the car back so I could wash the oil off the tarmac. Difficult as there were now no front wheels! Two 4x2s and the trolley jack got the front end up in the air but due to the little jack wheels and tarmac it I couldn't push it! another piece of 4x2 applied as a lever under the engine bay cross member and pushed solved the moving issue in stages.
Of course earlier when first lowering the engine sub-frame assembly the DS went down lower that the PS side! Once I undid the clutch slave pipe and the heater hose it became easier!!!!

How'd you find the out from under approach? How high up did you have to get the front of the car?

I was half tempted to take my engine and gearbox out from under so I could properly clean up the tunnel etc... But I had second thoughts because that'd be impractical.

Apparently it's the sort of thing you should try once, just for variety, but it can often hurt and the result can be disappointing for both of you.

i did it from underneath. i still maintain its far easier if you want to take the box out as well. but if its just one or the other, the more traditional way is easier.

IMPORTANT EDIT:

i suspect my view is coloured by the fact i have a electric gantry crane......

Drove mine for the first time since fitting a decat pipe and it is like a different car! So much more torque at low revs (<4K) .I Fell in love all over again.

In case you were wondering, it was a Toyo sports Cat that I removed.

Compression test today, readings of 6.6 to 6.9. Not quite hitting the magic 7s but solid for almost 54k Miles and a gentle improvement from when I bought the car.

This is my amateurish attempt at a logo / possible decal based on that AA man's comment. Sorry, I've forgotten who posted the comment originally.
Any (positive) criticism or suggestions welcome.
Does transforming the double 'o's into rotor housing shapes work?
Any interest?

Well this is a bit naughty and false, I have ask this particular person to call me (or I call him) to discuss and help fault find what exactly is going on with the car as when tested the coils they worked as intended. Please consider why we not even open the box, charge you and then just send them back! It does not make sense for us to do that!

That was one element of the test, we then actually fitted to our car and they worked flawlessly. We are in the process of build a bench testing facility.

I was going to suggest that maybe there is a high resistance earth which was created when you installed your bonnet struts as by your own word this is when this issue started.

These coils pull alot of current compared to OEM so would be affected by this more so.

As for RRP letting you down, ive given mine and scotts number to call to help diagnose and offered to call you both offers were not taken up, instead you message after working hours and then slight us here 8 minutes later with no chance of recourse.

Either way all we want is to get the problem sorted and help you on your way.
