Seats - what possibilities?
Gents
As much as I like the stock cloth seat in my S1, its getting a little tired and I'd like to replace it
however I know that the leather / electric options are all little higher in the squab so I will end up sitting about an inch higher
this part is unacceptable to me as I'm 6'3" and my head is about 30-40mm away from the roof as it is and this is with the squab / cushion height set almost at the bottom
plus I know the motorised seats are quite a bit heavier than the manual ones
are all the motorised RX8 seats the same?
so do I have to stick finding another cloth seat?
what about the R3 seats?

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
I’m same height as you and can wear a helmet on Trackdays with ease without rubbing the roof lining
Could you not just find another 8 locally and try sitting in it ?

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
I think "proportion" has at least as much impact as height, when you're seated.
I'm just under 6ft these days but my head is against the roof lining in an 8 with "leather" seats when wearing a helmet, so much that I have to tilt the back to fit inside.
My 8 has cloth seats and that gives me just enough room, though not having a sunroof helps too.

do the half leather seat and r3 seats sit lower than the regular full leather seats?

I'm 6' (32" leg if that helps proportions?) and need to tilt the seat in the R3 back a couple of notches to fit with a helmet.

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
When I was driving Alans R3 after the AGM sitting in the seats gave me a good almost inch or so extra head room in my normal driving position. Or as close to it as I could get. Not sure if the R3 seats are actually any lower than the S1 cloths. Was a much more pleasurable drive than driving Ranjans fully caged out car where I was packed in like a sardine. Though not having bridgeport fun was missed.

Seats - what possibilities?
One way to solve this issue is to buy a GT86/BRZ as the roof has Helmet recess within the Headlining

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
I now have Ranjans old car and will be fitting a pair of bucket seats therefore the cloth Evolve seats will be available for sale soon. I have just checked the height from the seat squab to the roof skin, no headlining in the car, and it’s 98cm. The seat of course squashes so that’s probably 1m if some is sitting in the car. I am 6’ 2” and with my helmet on I can just get my fingers between the helmet and the roof. This is a no sunroof car, in the sunroof car the glass is 97cm from the seat and the rim of the sunroof frame is 96cm.Yorindesarin wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 5:35 pmWhen I was driving Alans R3 after the AGM sitting in the seats gave me a good almost inch or so extra head room in my normal driving position. Hope the above helps and if you are interested in the seats, front and rears, let me know.

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
I purchased some Recaro seats from a Corsa VXR, I have dyed the centres black (much nicer than the grey).
I am looking to remove the runners from the stock seats and adjust them to fit the Recaros, my big headache is getting them low enough, I'm 6ft 1 and like a low driving position.

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
The runners are electrically powered on the RX8 so you cannot transfer them to the Recaros. You remove the rails with the floor mounting brackets and attach them to the runner mechanism of the Recaros. The fun thing of course is that you will probably find the RX rails mounted width is not same width as the Recaros. Previously removed the rails from the RX8 seat, mounted them into the car, made up a timber jig to hold the rails in place when unbolted, leaving the top surface clear.
I offered this “assembly” up the the seat I was mounting and had some bridge pieces welded into join to the new seats sliding rails. I am 6’ 2” and just had enough headroom in a car with a sunroof.

I'm going to have to b***** the two systems as you have said. Luckily I have lots of time and space to crack on, I ay end up buying some bride seat mounts if it comes to it, but that would be admitting defeat as well as a unnecessary expense.

I measure up at 1mtr from bum to top of head so it sounds like these may not be suitable for me
are Evolve seats powered? as I know an S1 powered seat sits too high for me

Hi
I have an after market seat mount I can take pictures and measurements if that helps you fabricate one.

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
Just checking here, were the powered seats set as low as they could go?350matt wrote: I know an S1 powered seat sits too high for me
Based on members cars that I've worked on it's not uncommon for the height motor to get stuck or for something like a coin to get jammed in the mechanism.
One member at a car handling day was about to sell his car due to lack of headroom and was amazed when I showed him that the seat went up-and-down as well as in-and-out, as he'd never tried it, in 3 years ¯\_( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)_/¯
You've probably checked but it wouldn't be the first time that someone has modified what they thought was a design error only for it to be a maintenance failure.

good point
I've sat in a couple both powered and with the seats as low as poss I wasn't happy with the amount of roof to bonce clearance still - any bump resulted in a thump

Re: Seats - what possibilities?
There is also a mod you can do which involves undoing the bolt at the back of the sear squab and fitting a longer bolt with about an inch of washers between the seat rail and the squab bracket thus lowering the seat rear by about an inch.
The DIY is in here somewhere I think.
The Evolve seats I have are electric.
