It was a limited release to Australia, New Zealand and Japan. With the "best possible" everything in it. Obviously low numbers and was I believe the last iteration of the S1 to be released?

Oh!!! I see, I ask because the previous owner of my 40th Anniversary has put Spirit R badges on the wing under the anniversary edition badges. I want to remove them but I worry the paint will be damaged.

Thanks for the info.

Its ineffect what the Spirit R was to the RX7 FD. It'd be hard to find one complete to begin with.. Even harder to find one for sale I'd imagine. The people who bought/own them are the types who bought them for the reason of keeping them for a very very long time.

From my googling it’s certainly a car that would be kept garaged, used on special occasions and shows! Those seats look amazing!

Not strictly true, they do come up fairly regularly in Japan. They go for about 20-25k pounds when they do though.

Differences are 100% cosmetic and practically identical to an R3. The changes are:

Blacked out chrome in headlights and tail lights, red brake calipers, spirit R badges on the C pillars, red and black leather on the recaros, gloss black transmission tunnel trim and that's about it - oh and bronze wheels. They only came in sunlight silver and black.

The main other difference is that they were sold up until 2013 as they were sold in regions that weren't subject to EU emissions laws. Exact numbers are unconfirmed as they extended the period of sale for them as it was supposed to end in 2012.

I came this close (insert fingers close together) to buying one a while back, but for £20k it just wasn't justifiable.

@Ryan Rotary Performance - you can get the lights (front and rears) from Japanparts.com but they retail at about 350 per light plus import charges etc. last time I looked 👍

When you consider what a used set of R3 headlights can be sold for to claw some money back, roughly £1k for a new set of Spirit R ones seems OK value to me.

There is nothing special about a SPIRIT R R3, what I mean by that is that everything on the SPIRIT R can be replicated by anyone.

It's just that it's the last in the line of 8's and the last rotary every made so I guess that's special to someone but the price is frankly ridiculous

Back in 2013 it would of cost me £35,000 to bring over a Brand New Mazda RX-8 Spirit R 6sp Active Auto with Full R3 Body Kit and a few more extras fitted to the car

Might be prudent to let your friend who has modded R3 lights before know that there's still demand. If it was a reasonable price then I'd pay to have my R3 headlights look like the Spirit R ones.

Otherwise I'm going to pay a bodyshop to do it and chance it. I can't quite afford the price new that Carl was quoted

TW Whites & Sons wouldn't Import the car Dave :( , so I went direct to a Company that Exports New & Used Janpanese Cars from Japan :thumleft:

The cost of shipping it over plus how much money I would lose soon as the car came off the boat at Tilbury Docks put me off the whole exercise :(

Re: Rx8 Spirit R Part Numbers

The R3 headlights are standard butyl units, so they can be opened up relatively easily (relative being the term here - compared to some permaseal units) and then the internals can be painted black like I have had done with mine.

The only difference on having this done compared to the Spirit R is that I didn't go to the effort of masking off the internal circle like the picture Carl posted above.

Sounds like another instructional video might be required
