Re: North coast 500

As Dave pointed out above, the search facility on the forum will find most of what you need to find. As to the NC 500, this was the comment from one of our members, but sums up all the comments I've read about Club organised NC500 runs,
"I went on the last 3 (2015, 2016 and 2018) and they were the best thing I've done in the RX-8 in the 12 years since I bought it."
There was an attempt to repeat the trip in Sept 2019, but it didn't happen, which probably means there will be pent up demand to run it again this year. Keep an eye on the forum for more news

Hi Charlie,
and glad your access is working now. You've some pretty nice roads round your way too, but there is a unique quality to the NC500. I've seen some of it from a diesel Focus estate - looks like much more fun in an RX8 (though possibly not for any passengers!)

Re: North coast 500
If as Malcolm (casey) says, if the club are doing a run then great, otherwise -
Details will be on the Scottish RX8 Owners group on Facebook run by Ben Taylor. They do an annual NC500 - this is not an RX8OC event.
I did it with them last year, fantastic driving roads and scenery. Your passenger will not need to suffer any car sickness and the driver may not see too much of the scenery until he/she stops that is! That said these are some of the best driving roads in the UK.
We treated it as a recce for a second run during which we would take more time and have more stop overs. I'm still planning that one.....

Re: North coast 500
I am looking at doing the NC 500 in Sept with Kathy as passenger so it will likely be over a week and not the mad three days like the annual (so far) Scottish groups run. Ben is no longer in Scotland I think therefore not sure if anyone else will be taking up the mantle.
If anyone want to tie in with me to make up a 3 or 4 car group then let me know and lets get plotting.

Re: North coast 500
I'm going round as part of a longer trip to Scotland in April. We'll be going round fairly slowly (compared to the 2-3 day blasts) and doing an open loop from Aberdeen then down the west coast back to England, so our schedule might not mesh too well with those of driving holiday purists... But I can take some pretty scenic photos to encourage you to get your planning done and make the drive?

Hi and
Cconnor95.
I think, as fishywick said, Ben and the Scottish RX8 Owners group on Facebook did run this again last September - unfortunately I couldn't go this time as I was in the USA at the same time. I haven't seen anything about another run this year yet.

I do believe it was me that said that about it being the best thing I've done in the RX-8 - and I still maintain that is the case.casey wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 2:11 pm.... Is that right Ben has moved out of Scotland? If we do get 3 or 4 cars then I'll happily be one of them Chris - and if we're taking a bit more time I have an idea for an alternative route up from Falkirk going (I forget the road number) across Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe, across to a small car ferry at Glen Elg (there are some iron age brochs to visit there) across to Skye, do a circuit of the island and come back across the bridge before heading up to Applecross and north.ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:43 pmI am looking at doing the NC 500 in Sept with Kathy as passenger so it will likely be over a week and not the mad three days like the annual (so far) Scottish groups run. Re: North coast 500
Sounds a good addition to the route Brian you could be on.
Malcolm has also expressed an interest so it looks like I have a trip to sort out but think it should be limited to 6 cars maximum given what the roads are like up there.

My Scottish road trip was amazing for me in 2018. I'd be game to join a group this year for sure.
