Mx5 interloper- interested in RX8 brakes
Hello,
I have just joined your forum to get some ideas and information on front brake upgrades for my track day mx5 NC, 2007 vintage.
I know RX8 brakes can be used as an upgrade which bolts on directly (290mm to 320mm) and bigger pads/callipers. However, I saw an advert from another poster for RX8 big brakes (Freakyparts 4 pot upgrade) which set me thinking.
Has anyone got any big brake kits for sale, new or in good condition? If so, please let me know.
I would also be interested to know what the biggest RX8 brakes that will fit within 17” wheels ? I have heard that 335mm can be made to fit, but would appreciate any confirmation.
Thanks for any help or suggestions and hope I am not contravening forum rules with my requests.
Thanks
Richardracer

Re: Mx5 interloper- interested in RX8 brakes
You're welcome here Richard.
As well as RX-8 brakes, many of our members also have (or have move onto) MX-5s, so should be able to come up with some suggestions.
What's your budget for these brakes?

Re: Mx5 interloper- interested in RX8 brakes
For 4 pot callipers, discs, pads and fittings, around the £500 mark for new or nearly new.
I already have a full front subframe for standard RX8 brakes, but if I can get better for the price of all the refurb required (pistons, seals, discs, pads), I would prefer better solution. Coming from a 2014 BMW M5, most brakes look small. The discs are enormous, as are the pads, but a full set all round is £1500!
Thanks

Thanks GreySilver Beast, now updated.
We’re you at MOT Brands track day on Friday? Window sticker seen before somewhere....
We were in red mx5 NC with black hardtop.
Loved the Racing Beat RX8, which looked to fastest car on track!

Re: Mx5 interloper- interested in RX8 brakes
I doubt £500 will even get you a set of Calipers. Also the Freaky parts 4 pot Caliper group buy on here was for standard size discs.
If you are going for bigger discs then expect a price of c£1500 for Calipers, discs and pads.
Beaten to it by GreySilver Beast:::: Click on the link at the top left of the forum page and you will soon be on your way to being a member.

Re: Mx5 interloper- interested in RX8 brakes
Welcome.
We like MX5,s here...!
I went for the Wilwood 4 pots for mine .
When on a less than friendly MX5 site I was told the standard brakes were more than good enough ( so don't bother) but chose the Wilwoods as they were less weight than the standard brakes and a lot more powerful.
I think I posted some pics on here of them already.

I'd like to claim efficiency, but mostly coincidence of being on line at the right time. I once managed about 2 minutes, as the email notification landed just as I was finishing a few applications from earlier in the day!ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:05 pm32 minutes from payment to confirmation, now that is impressive!
