Messing about pulling apart a spare binnacle to see how it goes together. I do have to say, in a very sad way, the light guides on this are very impressive.

I polished up my headlamps: once set up, 2 minutes with the McGuires on the supplied polishing fluffy wheel in an electric drill does this:
Before:

after:
HL after sm.png
it doesn't look bad in the before photo but it was pretty cloudy.

Fitted a set of Denso..... Windscreen wiper blades, from euro car parts as the old bosch ones just seemed to smear and leave water all over the screen. I'm finicky about how clean the windscreen is. Waiting on plugs from Ryan rotary(probably be next weekend before I get to fit these) and depending on weather oil and filter change tomorrow

Not today but yesterday..
Struggled to get doors open on the 8 and the family car after hard overnight frost.
So spent a little time in the afternoon wiping seals over with silicone spray.

Many years ago, during a particularly hard winter, a workmate thought it would be a good idea to empty a washing-up bowl of warm soapy water over the windscreen to de-ice.

It may even have worked, if he'd started the car and driven off within a few minutes, but by the time he'd sorted himself out and come back out to the car the water had frozen solid, including the front doors. He was able to open a rear door and clamber though inside. #-o

He learnt from his mistake and the next morning he came out with a big bowl of HOT water, which he poured over the screen.
He was most impressed by the sound of the ice melting, until he realised that it was the windscreen shattering [-X

Oooft shattering windscreens lovely! Today I got another set of jack stands and some dehumidifiers for the 8. Put the dehumidifiers in the car (just those bag ones off amazon) but it seemed to me the week or so its been sitting it hasn't gotten damp but precautions for the sake of it! When its next not raining Ill be putting the car up on all the jack stands I have, stripping the rear and front wheel arch liners and the skirt aero before I wash absolutely everything down ready for once the sheds built. :p

Edit: Anyone suggest some cavity wax for the sills? Had a quick look and boy do they vary a bit in pricing.. Obviously want whats best!

I've been wondering what to re-coat mine with after refurbishment.
Some products are really expensive and I wonder which ones are are worth getting?

Any 2K clear lacquer will work fine.
2K is better as 1K since it is more resistant against uv radiation, moisture, grease, fuel, road salt etc.
The immediate application after restoring the brightness of the lamps is important because this 2K lacquer will keep the lamps clear for 5-15 years(dependent upon number of layers), whereas without this protective layer the oxidation of the uncovered plastic material will start immediately after the polishing treatment.....within a couple of months the first signs are visible.
As an example I used the next 2K lacquer where both components are stored in the spraycan and are mixed just before starting spraying by an ingenious system.

After the usual RX8 owners regular inhalation of non cat treated exhaust fumes our lungs are probably immune to the cyanide in 2 pack paint!!!

No proof of any cyanide content found.......
Of course the spraying must be handled in a safe manner..

Safety data sheet
according to 1907/2006/EC, Article 31
https://download.kwasny.com/datasheets/ ... ack_GB.pdf

How do 2K spray cans work?
In the bottom of the aerosol is a pressure valve made, to which an aluminum tube is attached with the curing agent in the bottom. This ensures that the paint and hardener carefully separated. With the red push button is the seal of the hardener tube can be opened, so that both components can be mixed. After mixing, the created 2K paint is to be processed for at least 24 hours. Depending on environmental conditions (temperature), this can also be much longer, but 24 hours is guaranteed. (At 2K Primer is the guaranteed processing time is 8 hours).

Aliphatisches Polyisocyanat

https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isocyanate
use google translate,

Isocyanates are the esters of volatile isocyanic acid . The salts of isocyanic acid are identical to the salts of cyanic acid and are therefore referred to as cyanates .
