Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Yesterday fitted the remainder of interior LEDs (kept forgetting to put decent screw driver in car for the sunglasses holder) and did the rear number plate lights...
Kit I got was slightly wrong as had cigar shaped bulb but needed the same as the rest of the interior. Luckily had a couple spare due to door projectors. Roll on winter for the illuminations

Fitted Ryan rotary engine mounts, took an hour, not bad consideration I had to top the oil up in my hydraulic jack first, well it is nearly 30 years old, see how these fell in the way to North Wales later.
Led side lights, purple Led interior & puddle lights, pz grills, Ryan rotary performance coils, sump, engine mounts & sohn, HME engine rebuild at 50k, RRP exhaust & high flow cat, racing beat revi intake including scoop, quick shifter, alloy filler cap, pz alloys, suspension, mazdaspeed spoiler, japspeed toe arms & hardrace camber arms, RRP custom remap

They're just clips. You can take them out and tbh could just use a nut and bolt either side. Few more detailed photos here: https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... 5#p1046119johnbb99 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 10:18 pmI've been cleaning up my replacement oil coolers as they may be needed and found one of the fixings was so badly corroded that I sheared the bolt trying to unthread it.

And in detail:
Are these clips (that rusty bit, with a nut welded on underneath) a standard part that I might find elsewhere or be able to buy?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
FINALLY got round to completing the installation of my SOHN oil level warning light. I chose to have a separate light for the the two stroke tank but that leaves the problem of where to put it.
This is my solution: And this is how how it will appear to me as I drive: I am happy I'll spot that as soon as it comes on.
As that bit of plastic is pointing down at your knees I had to make up an angle block to mount the lamp in.
It was crafted from solid oak .... not exactly a traditional Mazda material!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Picked up a pad retaining spring plate and Caliper deal kit from Racing Brake in LA. I had to place the order online last night and then when I arrived to collect today I was told I couldn’t collect until they sent me advice that the order was ready for collection which could take two days! To cut a long story short after about 20 minutes I was presented with a bag containing the spring and the seals. Got in the car and looked at the seals in the bag and thought “4 pot calipers x 2 = 8 pistons with two seals each, why are there only 8 seals in the bag? Knock on the door, no reply, go round the side to the open loading bay, no one about, back round the front knock again still no response, back round the side and found the guy, manager I think who served me and said I think I need more seals, mumble, mumble response, he went into the warehouse and came out with 8 more seals, no apology for the error he just said “this happens when call at short notice”
So that’s USD112 for 16 little rubber rings. Fair does though I was given the pad retaining spring plate for free.

Out with the old...
In with the new...
All 4 old ones had these burn marks on them. Is that the sign that they are pretty much done?

Thumbnail sized grey marks just show where they've got hot, which is normal.
Breakdown is often associated with small white spots, sometimes with a tiny black dot in the centre.
I'm not seeing any of those in the photo (phone screen) so it looks like you replaced them it time.
Much better to replace before failure.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Swapped out the old key for a newly cut one in the 'new' switchblade I got from ebay ready for a FORScan session tomorrow. Bit trickier than I originally thought as the pin holding the blade in place is a bit smaller than any of my punches, but a Torx bit from my tiny screwdriver set did the job lovely.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Did the 6 month oil and filter change. Nice smooth oil out with no bits in. And tied up some loose gearbox wiring. Also tried to find the source of the rattle when I go over bumps. I've been hunting it for a while, and had thought strapping up the loose manifold heat shield would sort it. Still couldn't locate the cause of that rattle, everything feels tight down there.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Got an update from my mechanic. Clutch and flywheel are in car drives forward/back. Hasn't been able to test drive it yet since I wanted a back box with two tips put on. He had a bit of an issue seperating the back box from the mid pipe... Tried heating it up to basically white hot... Corrossion just refused to break! He's going to figure some fab work out and get everything back together for tomorrow then test drive it. He said the bite point on the clutch pedals quite low... Wondering if someones messed with the pedal adjustment at some point. Anyone got any thoughts as to what else that could be?

Compression test on the 231 with good results so I am a happy bunny. Used some new eBay bodywork clips to fill in some gaps, not so impressed with those though. Can any body tell me what this connector in the FLS wheel well is for as it doesn’t seem to have a friend on my car?

Alright cool. I figured it might just need some time to settle. Going to check the free play in the pedal incase that's been adjusted at some point.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Attempted to fit the new wheel liner after it got ripped.......took off the remaining of the old wheel liner and discovered the new one doesn't fit ( It did say on the ebay listing it was for an R3)
Search begins for another liner.
Also cleaned up the headlights a bit as had bit of yellowing and fade around the edges.....came up quite well for a quick job!
*Update on the 'crazy ex tinder date car keying - Police are absolutely useless! 5 weeks on they finally collected the CCTV footage but apparently the file format isn't compatible with the police computer so may 'take a while' to access it (god help us all).
I called the officer 16 times, and messaged 8 times since then and not heard anything back, currently on hold to 101 for 2hours 18 minutes and counting..... TOP TIP Don't be a victim of crime in South Yorkshire
