Changed the oil and filter on the R3
It should be an easy job using the Pella but the location of the filter makes it a right pain.
I probably write the same on here every time but as I get older it gets more and more difficult crawling under the car to get at the filter.
Used my axle stand jacking pads for the first time and they worked well.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Many thanks to Wayne (Mr Spiller) for providing replacement oil cooler pipes and coolers at short notice.
He did a five-star job of labelling everything, sealing open ends, and wrapping everything up into a tidy package to be picked up. Much appreciated!
. The brackets have suffered the predictable corrosion, so should I I leave them as they are (probably not), accept that they are weaker and just derust and repaint, or do I need to buy replacements at about £25 each?
And do I need to worry about the corrosion inside this pipe joint? Thanks.

I’d Clean the inner part of the fittings with wire wool and clean out with wd40 or a solvent cleaner
Could do the same to the outside if your fussy.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I am intending to do a compression test tomorrow morning but need to know how to isolate the ignition and injection systems. Can any one help with that please? What fuses do I pull?
Also, what is the best workshop manual? I am used to working out of Haynes manuals which I like but I haven’t been able to find one for the 8.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I find it easier to disconnect the ESS from underneath, as the car is already jacked up (on axle stands) with the wheel off to access the plugs. Saves stripping the air box out.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I got some intriguing results from the compression test today. One rotor exceptionally good on a 65000 mile car by my way of thinking and the other not so good at all so it looks like I am in the market for a rebuild. Love the sound of Carl’s 192 special bridge although I need to check the rest of the car over to make sure it is worth spending the money on first.

Continued getting everything ready for engine removal for a home rebuild. Only top bell housing bolts and engine mounts to go. Found someone's done a lovely job on "fixing" the secondary exhaust O2 sensor.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Had the cable been routed wrong, so it wouldn't reach, or was it an aftermarket cat with the sensor mount in a different place?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Irregardless, all the aftermarket cats/decats I've seen with sensors mounted in a different place still allow the factory O2 sensor cable to reach it without a problem.

Not sure about the routing tbh as I've only ever seen this one. It's defo a cheap aftermarket one. I've not found a heat shield attached to it either that will explain the scorching seat mounts in the cabin. It should have one right?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I've been cleaning up my replacement oil coolers as they may be needed and found one of the fixings was so badly corroded that I sheared the bolt trying to unthread it.
Here: And in detail:
Are these clips (that rusty bit, with a nut welded on underneath) a standard part that I might find elsewhere or be able to buy?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Not me personally, but Nick swapped out my leaking rear main oil seal, inspected rear stationary bearing whilst replacing O ring, minimal wear with no copper showing (engine has about 25k on it since rebuild) so all I have to watch out for now is rust as the oil leak was doing a good job at keeping the corrosion at bay
