Hi all. This is my first post (accept for the other one regarding buying parts) since becoming a member.
Just took the rear black plastics off and sprayed them gloss black. Looks way better. Also rebuilt the rear brake calipers and while it was on axle stands decided to clean down the suspension arms and paint those too.
Here's to tarting up the car

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Only some of my spoilers from yesterday came true... Polished the headlights so they now don't look like someone was making cheese in them. Fixed the boot brake light with connectors as advised. Went had a spot of lunch and took my Mrs for her first ride in it.
Then I decided to get the connects2 Bluetooth adapter that came with it working... What a mistake this was. After ages of not being able to find it on my phone's Bluetooth I took the radio apart to get to it and check it over. All looked good. Put back in and found the signal! Only to then realise the radio and little screen didn't work. Pulled it apart again to fix that and broke the cable for the Bluetooth dongle. Got the connector apart, soldered everything in place and put back together. Radio back in all the radio was working. Sadly I couldn't get to ex mode. At this point I found out its running firmware 10.01 and isn't compatible anyway. Time wasted 4 hours....

Got some nice ‘3D’ sticky badges from someone on Facebook. Fitted them today, not to be bias but they look so much better than the OG badges.

Nice prep work there! Just out of interest does the bucket seat sit you lower down? I'm pretty jammed in with my helmet on with the stock leather seats it's not too uncomfortable but wouldn't mind a bit of head roomMarkl17 wrote:I went to the local car meet this morning,it was a good turnout lots of cars good coffee and sunshine when I got home I prepared the car for next weekend track day seat in harness in track wheels on ,decat and rb back box on.

Sounds like you had fun. Sometimes once you get under the car and start cleaning it's hard to know when to stop I started painting my calipers and ended up doing all the suspension struts and subframe whilst I was thereleigh_ivins wrote:Hi all. Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Great day at Santa Pod. Saw two other Sunlight Silver RX8s in the car park plus a really great sounding Copper Red (Evolve ?) on the way out.
Motorway system seems to be getting even less useful, closures, roadworks, delays, yawn.... last 5 miles home on A-road was fun.

Hi shroom.
Head room in my car is terrible as I have a sunroof so had to spend a lot of time getting the seat mounted as low as possible,
Now I have just enough head room ,and I am not very tall.

Went past your driveway on Sunday and seen your legs sticking out from underneath the Kuro.
Did you get it all back together.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Rolled into a car park after the engine died while changing gear. Would start but just die again. Had a hunt about and i had pinched the vacuum (i think) line that goes under the air box. Thankfully i was lazy last night and left my tools in the back. 30 mins later a small woosh and its running great and the idles come up a little 850-900 and much smoother.
I'm starting to wonder what other little bits are wrong and potentially holding it back.

No I had to hot foot it to the G's place to sort out a smashed window on her mini Refit front wings and bumper, swap rear brakes and change the gearbox oil is all that's left.
For now!

The angle of those shoulder straps is too great, in a hard head on crash your shoulders will be crushed downward. They need mounting into the parcel shield or rear bulk head.Markl17 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 4:12 pmI went to the local car meet this morning,it was a good turnout lots of cars good coffee and sunshine when I got home I prepared the car for next weekend track day seat in harness in track wheels on ,decat and rb back box on.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Sort of. From memory, the Blue book specification is between horizontal and 45 degrees, with a preference for horizontal. I measured mine when mounted to the seat belt mounts and they were spot on 45 degrees. I did a full season like that, and the scrutineer just let it through. The argument was that a properly fixed harness at 45 degrees is much better than normal seat belts, and much better than bolting the harness to fixing points that are not designed for the purpose.ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:47 amThe angle of those shoulder straps is too great, in a hard head on crash your shoulders will be crushed downward. If you have a cage then it's a no-brainer to go horizontally to the cross-beam. But if you don't have a cage, and don't want to weld in special mounting points, then going to the rear seat belt mounts is an acceptable solution on the rex.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Well sods law has been enacted! Ordered a pilot bearing from Clive last night due to the rotary revs one taking forever to appear... So what appears today only the Rotary Revs pilot bearing! There cant be much difference between the two so I think its going ahead with the RR one and figure out what to do with the one from Clive. Just to get my car back on the road finally!

That gels with my understanding;
- no higher than horizontal
- no lower than 45°
- ideally 10° below horizontal, to give some compression into the seat base, while restraining forward motion.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Thanks V8 Power. That reminds me that I didn't use my HANS device when I had the harness fitted to the rear seat belt mounts. I only used my HANS when I had a cage, and horizontal belts. That was on the advice of the scrutineer.
