Petit exhaust

Post by DirkDiggler »

Anyone running a Petit/miltek exhaust system?
Mine is extremely loud and has the resonated centre section but with Decat, need to find a way to quieten the thing down.

Sell it to me. Sorry, that's not helpful, a sports cat would knock it down a couple of decibels.

I had one with the sport cat section and it was still pretty loud, not ridiculously so though.

I have the Pettit sports cat on and the noise level is fine for normal calm driving. Get the revs up and then you unleash the rotary sound!

I had a petit catback/sports cat and thought it was a bit too loud. Sounds like you're booting it all the time even when you're not. Then you do come to boot it and if only the car went half as fast as it sounded

As has been said, swap it out for a gutted OEM cat to quiet it down a touch. Ultimately the Pettit is up there as one of the louder catbacks, so there is only so much you can do to quieten it down...

On this topic I have a Petit exhaust then the Japspeed sport cat, not sure whether this breaks the noise limit for Castle Combe? Interested if anyone has the same setup and has a reading

Does having a supercharger make the exhaust louder?

I replaced my original Mazda cat (as I had it stolen) a few weeks ago with a new Mazda cat, and it’s transformed the Pettit from some5hing that IME took away the car’s potential as a GT, to something that IMHO is nice and restrained at low Revs and fully usable as a GT, but still sounds great at full chat. 😄

Pettit is the best exhaust imho
You need pettit double resonated decat to make it nicer.
AEM double resonated decat from pettit
Pettit cat back =84dcb at castle combe static test
When car is idling or driving slow is quait. Once revs go up is getting louder and If I play near 7k and drop pops and bangs make one huge bang and then more but not so big

All of the above comments are based on the assumption of a stock manifold. If you couple any of these with the Racing Beat manifold expect volumes to increase substantially :thumleft:

This comes from experience!

My car (admittedly bridgeported, but this doesn't increase audible volume) was running Pettit Dual Res midpipe and Pettit catback and hit 99.9dB static at Combe. After a short 2 laps I was called back in as the guy in the testing booth was still getting 100dB on his machine every time I drove past. For those who have been to Combe you'll know how far that is from trackside...

^^ This ^^

Was great for in town or hooning around country lanes but sat on M'way it was a bit silly - no drone as such but as soon as you need to apply some throttle for even gentle acceleration or a slight hill etc it sounded like you'd dropped 2 cogs and were flooring it....whilst gently increasing speed by 1 mph

Glad I switched to a Racing Beat Rev8, though I do miss all the pops, which I can barely hear with the RB fitted.

Was recently followed by plod through a town I didn't know, he took an interest in me for no apparent reason (fumes maybe??). He was even putting himself in the wrong lane at roundabouts behind me to make it look as though he was going a different way and then took whichever exit I took - maybe trying to encourage me to boot it thinking I was rid of him..... pretty sure with the Pettit on he'd have stopped me as there were some uphill drags through tunnels, managed to keep the noise down with the RB on though. 8)

Rb already have the solution to your problem, the dual resonated pipe gives the best sound an 8 can have, when cruising there is next to zero drone.

This system config allows for screaming highs but sublime cruising comfort. Mine is on a bridge port and the GF comfortably sleeps on long drives
