Finally managed to get around to wiring 12V to my grill badge lastnight. I didn't realise at the time that the pigment I used was UV reactive (neon blue resin pigment, I thought it was just a marketing name). I salvaged some leftover UV LED chips and wired em up ImageImage

Door card - yes
Boot light - yes
Vanity mirror lights - yes
Rear ceiling - yes
Glove box - yes but what a pain to get the dud old one out.
Front Ceiling to do - didnt have big enough screw driver in car.
Mirror puddle lights to do - look like a right pain, have seen videos and warnings about temperature...
Number plate light - not sure I'll do this as might be too bright.

Mirror lights - They're easy enough to do and best to do this time of year. If you wait until it gets cold then the plastic and the glass get more brittle which is what causes the issues.

Number plate lights - Bright isn't a problem as they point down. To each their own, but I think this modernises the look of the rear quite a bit. The only thing to note is that there isn't a lot of space in there, so you need some short profile LEDs. Some of the taller ones don't allow the plastic cover to go back on.

bought an RX8 kit which seems okay, only downside so far is they are polarity specific...

LEDs are polarity specific as they don't work on a resistance basis in the same way that normal halogen bulbs do.

Absolutely, but some newer ones contain circuitry to manage that limitation.

Actually dude, I'm a bit concerned about the blue thing. I'm waiting for a reply from askpoilce for clarification. I might have to change it to neon pink instead ](*,)

Thanks man, It's a bit of a bugger cracking the cases open to make the changes. The LED's don't seem to last very long (I've done 10k and needed a change) It might be worth considering a temporary seal on the headlights so it can be opened without hitting them with a heat gun every time.

Yeah I replaced the sidelights with LED's although the sidelight lenses are very translucent to a point where the light is very dim in comparison to the rest. Maybe, i'll look into casting new transparent lenses instead.

From my understanding you're not allowed any blue lights on your vehicle visible whilst driving if memory serves correctly. Think its that and green with maybe one other thing that we aren't allowed at all. And some vaguenesses on what is/isn't acceptable from the front/rear of the car.

Fairly sure that you can only have white (and possibly amber) lights operating on front of vehicle when it is on the road.

Off-road/show use only - any colour you want.

Thanks guys.

The only reference I've found as no reply yet. But this probably makes it clear it's a no for green, red and blue.

Hrrm... Neon pink , orange and yellow are the other pigments I could go for Image

If you do go down the wrap route can you please report back on which company you used and the sort of quotes you were given because I have been toying with the idea and would like to know the rough costing for it to be done.
Will do, theirs a company on Groupon offering it for £1000, sent them an email asking for colours available

The quality of a wrap can very hugely, both in terms of the product used and the skill and care of the wrapper.

I've seen wraps that have lifted on every internal curve and split on edges.
I've also seen cars that that have blistered with rust where the wrap has been trimmed, right through the paint into the metal.

You need to see some examples of a wrappers work, ideally after a year, not just last week.

One wrap shop in Essex was doing massive trade, based on the work of one of their guys, that had left to setup his own business months ago.
The stuff that I saw coming out of their workshop was crap, mainly printed stuff for vans & taxis, but still badly fitted [-X

best way to deal with it is either:

get the details of the bloke and a copy of the cctv and give it to your insurers to deal with through the legal assistance cover.... or

do the above but chase him through the courts using moneyclaim online.

the law wont get you the money to fix it. both the above options probably will....

One of my friends from work had his car keyed last year. By one of his "friends". The kid did it whilst drunk, also keyed about 10 other vehicles. No doubt that it was him... Got off not guilty in court... Ridiculous if you ask me.

I rang the insurance and they said it would go down as claim until he was found guilty in court (and Im up for renewal), then they would pursue him for the costs. My excess is £650 anyway so I'm going to see if he admits it to the police and then go small claims route, or see if he'll just cough up the cash (doubt it)

civil court is 'balance of probability' rather than innocent until proven guilty. short answer is, even if he doesn't admit it, if you have video of him doing it, you'll win.

Yeah I'm a bit cautious of the groupon one, the website doesnt work properly (not a great sign). They seem the specialise in commercial vehicles and by the time ive paid extra £75 for inside of door frames and £200 if i want metallic i may as well of gone somewhere else.

Not seen many wrapped examples though and with my RX8 nearly doing 100k miles Im not to concerned about resale value

Be aware that, having spoken to your ins co, they will have recorded that as "a loss" on your insurance record, even if you don't choose to claim on the policy.

That could increase your premium for next (and subsequent) renewals.

Drove from Cheltenham to Darlington with stop, go, crawl traffic virtually all the way from home to the M1 but made it in time for dinner. 3/4 tank of fuel used even cruising at 70 on the motorway when clear!
First time on track with the car tomorrow.
