Tyre pressure monitor system.
**Today is the last day to buy these at about £19 instead of £46**
https://www.banggood.com/Car-Solar-Wire ... rehouse=CN
I have been trying out one of these for a week or so.
TPMS 2.jpg
I have checked its readings against the Mazda-supplied electric tyre inflator and they all agree.
It's perhaps a pity it doesn't display a second digit of bar pressure. It has a solar panel on the top so if you install it under your windscreen it will keep the unit charged if there's enough sunlight on it. It also has a USB charging port, and comes with a cable.
It is supplied with a double sided sticky pad for fixing it on your dashboard but as the Rex has no flat surfaces that is not very effective.
I realise it's not the coolest looking accessory you could fit in your RX8, but I like the fact that I can see immediately if a tyre pressure is wrong.
The sensors each have a 3V lithium coin cell and screw onto the tyre valve. You use a nut already threaded on the valve to lock the sensor onto the tyre valve. That way they cannot be removed with just your fingers but all you need is the appropriate size spanner and they could be stolen.
Sensor.jpg
The smaller digits are tyre temperature [apparently!].
Another downside is that you have to remove the sensor to access the valve to inflate the tyre [or check it with another gauge].
Incidentally, our family car is a Mazda 6 estate which has a TPMS built into it which relies on counting rotations of the wheels to detect if one tyre's pressure is high or low. This system has been giving false alarms which the dealer has been unable to sort out so I shall be buying another one of these to fit in that car.

Have you weighed the valve sensors?

I'd be a bit concerned not by them impacting the overall wheel balance, unless they're really heavy, but the forces they might be applying to the valve housing when at speed.

Fancy valve caps can cause leaks as they wiggle the valve housing within the wheel.
This shouldn't be a problem with new tyres, as the valves usually get replaced, but with older tyres the valve housing can get hard and more brittle.
Also, if the housing gets wiggled about this can allow road salt to collect around the base creating corrosion.

At least if any of this results in a loss of pressure....

I had this set, the only problem I found is that one or two of them induced slow leaks in to the system. I have since removed them and the leaks stopped :thumleft:

Just a tip cut open top bracket and you can slide in or use longer and thinner bolt and washers to keep it solid at little angle.
I had fitting issues with mine just the top part.
And now I sell it I'm saving for simco purple hoses and koyorad

The PCM's control of the OEM fans is very complex, managing the correct cooling, not too hot, not too cold, and the alternator load, all at the same time. No aftermarket solution is going to be able to match that.

The oem fans even have a different number of blades to ensure that there can't be a resonance beat vibration created.

If you're use of the car is fundamentally different, e.g. building a track or drift car, then the oem solution may not be best for you.
Otherwise, any change is a downgrade.

Well battery is new 550cca 65a plus the ecu picks up if its dropped in temp and turns them off faster cooling has got to be better than boiling the engine as we know they hate it
