Did you manage to work out what the root cause was for your engine failure?
I don't remember seeing a conclusion (could have missed it though)

Hawk do quite a few pads but I assume he means the HPS ones.
The Mintex set works out about £30 cheaper for a set F+R.

'scuse my ignorance, but
In what way are the mintex pads not road legal?
And
Nick, are you saying that anything that isn't OEM is not strictly legal?
and would somebody please tell me how the mintex pads differ from standard ones for ordinary road use.
Many thanks.

What did I do today to my RX8?
I played in the snow!
When I say play, I mean struggle for traction EVERYWHERE and took 40 minutes to drive a 15 minute commute.
Safe to say she’ll be parked up as much as possible this weekend!

A lot of parts such as coilovers will say that they're not for use on public highway.
Something about not being tested for it and getting a certific8 to prove that they're suitible.
That's not to say that they'd fail, but it's extra costs and they want to cover their backs in case some dipsh** has a crash and wants to blame it on something other than their own terrible driving.
Insurance companies could I suppose make a big deal about this, and I'll bet money that they insure cars with these parts fitted knowingly... but I'm not aware of them leveraging this against owners in a claim on the regular.

It us also true that sports specification coil overs are not legal and this is all because they have been subject to the approval tests which are expensive.
if aftermarket parts are equivalent to the OE parts then they are legal on the road, if this was not the case there would be no independent parts motor factors or high street parts shops.

EBC (Yellowstuff) are R90 approved so good for road
As previously stated though it is probably just a case of the manufacturer not going to the expense of type approval. We all know how good 1144's are but it is worth people being aware so they can make informed decisions.
