so it seems that after only 5k miles, the clutch has gone
looking at replacements (mainly the exedy one) there are 2 listed, 5speed and 6speed (192/231 i assume)
besides the price, is there actually any difference in the two?

Re: Clutches (5speed vs 6speed)
yes.
that is all
a 5 speed clutch will not fit a 6 speed or vice versa.

I get that they're listed as such however i've found in alot of cases its the same thing under a different part number.

Different bolt PCDs and sizes - if you can get one to fit the other then I'll lick your gearbox clean.

Re: Clutches (5speed vs 6speed)
I've only even seen RX8 parts listed as different for the 192 and 231 where they're actually different parts.
However the opposite is true, where manufacturers/suppliers list the same part for both models, when they should be different.
For example, listing the same front lambda sensor for the 192/231.
or listing the same oil filter for the S1 & S2(R3)
or the same suspension spring for all models, including standard S1, PZ, 40th Anniversary and R3.
BTW I believe it is possible to fit a 192 clutch to a 231 and vice-versa, if you also change the flywheel as well, plus the counterweight (if none OEM), but there's usually no advantage.
The only exception is if you've highly tuned (e.g. fitted a turbo to) your 192 and need an uprated clutch that's only available in the 231 fitment.
192 clutches don't last long trying to manage the output of a 231.

Re: Clutches (5speed vs 6speed)
I'm virtually certain this is correct, as when mine disintegrated I had a CC lightweight flywheel (and counterweight) fitted along side a 231 clutch in my 192 Nemesis for that little extra longevity and bite that comes with a larger diameter unit (very marginal, and I'm sure nobody would notice the difference but every little helps).warpc0il wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 10:02 pmBTW I believe it is possible to fit a 192 clutch to a 231 and vice-versa, if you also change the flywheel as well, plus the counterweight (if none OEM), but there's usually no advantage.
