People are as obsessed with hitting the beep as much are they are with compression results
No need to hit the beep on every journey
A thorough thrash once a week, when the engine oil is fully up to temperature, will suffice IMO
Regards,Mark.

Almost as much as the obsession with honda owners and V tech.

Removed the standard cat and replaced it with a high flow cat. Makes the exhaust note alot more raspy and the engine revs much more freely.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Today was a big day for my dear rx. Poor thing had been choking and sputtering everywhere we went. The culprit? A truly terrible exhaust that came attached to the car when I bought it.

That crack in the muffler was making it sound like a tambourine, a trumpet, and an elephant all at the same time. And in general it's just a bad piece of kit!
Ryan Rotary Performance to the rescue, with a full stainless resonated 200cpi cat and cat back system:
Fitting the new system was a breeze. It sounds and drives so much better now! Low down in the rev range it hums gently (if you can discipline your right foot), and f ing screams like murder when it should ! There used to be a massive crack of a pop before, which has turned into a more refined "popple" of sorts. Nice burbles and the little triple mini pops are clearly heard, and I love it.
The best part, though, is the improved response and eagerness it has now. Feels like it's always ready to let rip, and there's no bad time to stomp the pedal. It's so much smoother. It was a fun drive before, but we now have achieved rotary nirvana!
So yeah, pretty chuffed!

Looks very smart,Andy
Now you just need to get back underneath, and give the subframe and suspension arms a nice coat of POR-15 chassis paint

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Done a bit of track day preparation ,ready for Anglesey on 6th Sept.
Greased the steering Knuckle, raised the rear suspension up a few millimetres as the car had been grounding out a little ,even scraping the chassis a bit over speed bumps etc. Checked front pads as they had been a bit pitted but they seem to have smoothed out a bit with a bit of vigorous braking . I was going to put my new ones on but will take them to track day just in case the old ones crack up. They have almost as much material on as the new ones so im thinking they will be ok. Checked oil, water etc and all is good.
Fitted a new starter that I had had in the garage for a few months. Fixed my real led boot light as the resistor had burnt out and it works again.
Think were ready to go now and all set for the 6th.
Looking forward to it as I have not done this track before.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Not me ... but Rotary Revs.
Finished it.
10 weeks and 1 day after it arrived, my car is ready for collection.
Unfortunately, it's been there so long that the MOT expired about 3 weeks ago, so looks like I'll have to pay to get it collected.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
That's great news. Can you book it in for an MOT somewhere near RR, and just drive it there when you pick the car up? If it passes you can drive it home, and if it doesn't you can drop it back to Ben for whatever needs doing (I know, but you'll be a paying customer this time....)

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I know the car needs a few bits, and have purchased them & got them here. Now maybe Mr MOT tester might not fail it on them, but I'd rather fit them all prior to putting it in for a test.
I've just been caught out by how long this has taken. I was expecting it to take 2-3 weeks, then I'd have the same to do the work and MOT it. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case, and I don't wanna chance it with some known maybefails ... so most sensible option seems to be to get it recovered here, I do the work and then MOT it. If nothing else, I feel more in control of timescales doing it that way.
