MOT and 2T Premix
Hi
Tried a quick search but couldn't find the answer to this one.
Can I assume people don't continue to run premix for their MOT?
I would assume this would lead to an emissions fail?
So is the best advice to:
1. Run some cataclean through prior to the MOT
2. Give the car a good run and get everything up to temperature
3. Run no premix for the MOT
4. Keep your fingers crossed...
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Premix at the levels we use makes effectively no difference to the emissions - there is no need to skip it for an MOT

Also make sure climate control, heated seats and heated rear window are all off during emissions test.

Really pleased. Advisory on the rear drop links but we all know they're made of chocolate correct?

Will that actually make that much of a difference?warpc0il wrote:Also make sure climate control, heated seats and heated rear window are all off during emissions test.
Genuine question as I'd never really thought about it

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Yes, especially at idle these more than double the load on the engine and therefore significantly increase the emissions.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Or buy an import, de-cat it and take advantage of the rules to fly through the emissions regardless

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
i thought if you had an import and there was a uk equivalent, they can just do the same test as they would normally? even if there isnt an equivalent, they do the test based on the age of the vehicle and do a basic cat test. i cant see a decatted RX8 passing that!?TenToSeven wrote:Or buy an import, de-cat it and take advantage of the rules to fly through the emissions regardless
i have 3 other import cars, 2 are from 1990 and 1991 so just need a basic uncatted idle test (which they obviously pass) the other is an engine swapped car from 94 and he always moans at me that it needs a cat. am i missing something?

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Just a quick question, Cataclean and pre-mixing - is this a bad thing?
I used Cataclean - and I think it's good. Plan on doing this as a fairly regular thing, as I do a lot of town driving.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
I certainly wouldn't want to be using it regularly, the cleaners in it pull the oil off the chamber walls...it's basically shedloads of solvent + paint thinners diluted in petrol. It's not great for the fuel lines, etc, either.tekkendp wrote:Just a quick question, Cataclean and pre-mixing - is this a bad thing?

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Ha ha.. I was told by one of our specialists premixing was optional, as the R3 has an additional injector .. and 3 years on with my car my latest compression test showed higher figures on both rotors, so...........

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Afaik, imported RX8's aren't subject to the same stringent emissions requirements as those sold in the UK. Meaning you can remove the catalytic converter in favour of a straight pipe mid section, choke on the fumes/enjoy more free flowing exhaust, and still pass the emissions test when you put it through an MOT.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
No idea. According to .gov.uk the emission test to import the car, and get it subsequently MOT'd will be identical to if the car was a UK car of the same age:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... #emissions
"The IVA standard for both spark and combustion ignition emissions is identical to the MOT standard so you can have the vehicle checked at a local MOT station before the inspection."

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
You might get away with it if the car was on a Q plate but that has so many other disadvantages, like resale value and insurance.

Re: MOT and 2T Premix
Post 1992 imports get tested the same as the UK equivalent. So a de-cat is still a no no.
