This is for brand new complete car sets of PZ suspension units, Bilstein dampers and Eibach Springs.
These units will be made by the original manufacturers to the original specification.

The PZ suspension is the most tested performance suspension available for the RX-8
It was specified by Pro-Drive after developing It on two test RX-8,s over a year, 800 PZ,s we’re then produced with this spec.

This is complete plug and play suspension with no expensive geometry set up or corner weighting required.
Just fit and lap at race car speed or enjoy sharpened performance on the road for bigger grins.
This can also replace standard S1 suspension as a fantastic upgrade.

This video shows you what 40,000 ml PZ suspension is like so I would like to try a brand new set and take Copse flat at 125mph.F1 cars do it at 180mph.

PRICES ARE NOW CONFIRMED!!! WE NEED TO ACHIEVE 50 FULL SETS FOR THIS PRICE
  • Prices including VAT and delivery to your preferred address (Mainland UK)
    PZ Suspension set.................£552
    PZ Eibach spring set..............£210
    Set posted to N. Ireland........£565
Set posted to S. Ireland........... £575
  • What you get:
The kit comes as it did originally, without top mounts and front dust boots.
Top mounts are easily available if you don't want to re-use your existing ones.
There are options on dust boots (see fitting section)
    The kit consists of:
Dampers with spring seats, friction washers and bump stops. PZ spring set.
  • Fitting (for those not doing it themselves)
At present we have 4 traders who will offer the same fitting service at the same fixed price of £150 :thumleft:
    This will consist of:
Assembling the units (with top mounts if required)
    Fitting to the customers car
Front dust boots are extra if not reusing the customers original ones.
  • There are various options for front dust boots:
Reuse existing, leave them off, use second hand, buy new ones.
(A quick google showed between £6 and £15 although suitability would need checking)
This could be a good time to check things like drop links etc.
Traders offering set price fitting service so far:
  • Rotary Revs
  • Bigpete
  • 13Black
  • Luke M--(MRS)
Units can be sent direct to traders, but only by prior agreement with them please. :)

The order will be placed when the funds have been collected and not before. Will be placed 29/05/18

PROMPT PAYMENT WILL MAKE THIS WORK FOR EVERYONE

Bilstein have estimated 12 week delivery time scale (which is beyond our control)

I'm sure I will have missed something and I'm happy to try and answer any questions from people involved in this.
Thank you all.
Pete

Wow £625 for full set, wouldn't it be better to buy some coilovers for that price?

not if it puts you up a class in hillclimbing..... there are many reasons people want to keep it looking 'standard'...

Valid point.

However what makes you think that Coilover X (whatever your choice at this price point is) is 'better' than a set of brand new PZ suspension?

Do you think the makers of Coilover X have spent more time & money developing their solution to suit the RX8 in a fast road/track situation than Prodrive did with the PZ?

Is it because Coilover X is adjustable and the PZ suspension isn't?

Is it because Coilover X is shiny ... and everyone knows shiny is better! :)

Is it because Coilover X can make the car lower than PZ suspension?

Is it because you can tell your mates down the pub/internet forum (delete as appropriate! ) that your car has 'adjustable coilovers yo'?

People buy stuff for many different reasons, the above may be important factors to some people, but not others. Therefore 'better' isn't necessarily the same for everyone.

Just out of interest - what would be your personal thoughts on why a similarly priced coilover would be better than a set of new PZ suspension?

Had an interesting chat with Bigpete about him not being able to keep up with Nutty Pete on track, the former with coilovers and the latter with a PZ setup if memory serves me well.
I do believe Bigpete later bought a set of PZ Bilsteins.

Bilstein have been doing this kind of thing for a while y'know.

I may be interested in this too. Does anyone have experience of driving an RX8 fitted with the Bilstien B12 Pro kit and the PZ suspension and can comment on how they compare? I believe the B12 kit also have Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers?

Hi Stoo,
That's a very good question and I think I'll let Mazda themselves answer that for you.
Pro-Drive are a very well renown company that manufacturers would give their production cars to for improvement.
Mazda immediately recognized how good this suspension set up was and produced a very similar set up for the 40th and R3.(Pro-Drive had the patent so Mazda couldn't duplicate it)
I believe this is the ultimate compliment and racers copy the chap at the front of the grid not the person at the back.

Pro-Drive developed this for this country with exhaustive testing.
Bilstein that are very good produced theirs for a global market including soft riding USA ;) Mazda didn't copy them

I was sceptical myself about the PZ but was very impressed with the set up which is nice on the road and extremely good on track (and I really don't impress easily)
I haven't driven a car with the B12 set up (I think) but I have seen them on track as I have with most suspension set ups and not felt the need to change from the PZ suspension.
The B12 is a shortened B8... I was offered a modified B8 but despite what some people have said before according to Bilstein it's not the same as the PZ.
I wanted to replicate what has proved itself so well.
That's my take on it and hope that explains some things, I would pay more for the PZ set up
Regards
Pete

As I understand it, this thread is to gauge interest and determine if there is sufficient demand to warrant a group buy.

If there is sufficient demand, then a formal GB thread will be created, which is within the "member's only" section of the forum structure.

I posted it here to get maximum exposure quickly.
Realistically this will probably have to be open to anyone to make it work as we could do with 10 sets to get it moving.
It would be a shame to see PZ's scrapped because we didn't do this

I think it's reasonable to offer this to non-members Pete. My reasoning is that a traditional GB is to get a Club discount for readily available components, and for that benefit you should be a member. But when something is being commissioned specially, and requires a certain uptake, then members only get the components if there are sufficient numbers. To limit it to members, and risk it not happening, would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Do we need to revise the rules, or raise it at the AGM, to agree/clarify this?

I thought group buys were just a workaround for companies that don't want to pay to directly advertise their wares on here anyway.

-pew pew-

Maybe we can just call this the PZ Suspension Conglomerative Purchase thread and it comes under its own set of rules i.e none. What even are the rules for group buys anyway? Can surely wangle a way around them.

Very slight possibility that I'll put my name down for a set of springs but don't add me to a list yet :thumright:

Pete, I'm interested in a full set, BUT that does depend on timings. I am looking to replace mine asap.
Once you get enough names, 10?, have you any idea how long things would take from there?
Thanks

Its a modification if you fit uprated suspension (shocks & springs) to a stock car you should inform your insurance.

I take it this is a commissioned offering so won't be available at a later date?

Please add me for the full set please, and let me know if I need to become a member to participate. I probably should in any case, having owned a PZ since new from 2006...
