Gathering interest on a new Sussex/Kent meet

Post by LeeW »

I know that there have been previous Kent and surrounding areas meets that have subsequently been cancelled (I imagine for persistent low attendance), but I thought I'd see if there's any new interest for a meet down this way.

Spurred on by a new diner (well it's been there forever, but it's under new management and a rebrand) that is soon to be opening up near me on the A21. It's going to be an American style Diner and they advertise as welcoming car meets and clubs. It's funny because for years I've driven past it and said it would be a perfect location for a car meet.

https://tjsamericandiner.com/

It's literally on the A21 a couple miles further south of Bewl Water ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/nRqFTorcE1Ti7boT8 )

Just testing the waters to see if and what sort of hunger there is for a regular meet. Would people be interested in a monthly meet, a quarterly meet? A weeknight dinner, a sunday morning breakfast...? Coupled with a drive out before or after...? Will be interesting to see who wants what...

This will either fall completely flat immediately or met with 15 completely opposing opinions, certainly nothing in-between :P

I'd be interested, it's about an hour down the a272 from me so a nice drive if it's clear 8)
I'm unsure how often I could though, would depend on timings and stuff

Well done for posting up this suggestion Lee =D>

"Weeknight dinner" wouldn't work though? The Diner closes at 6pm, according to their website.

Doesn't rule out weekend meets though. Looks like an interesting venue, but sadly too far from Colchester for me to attend. I hope others in Sussex/Kent, or even South Essex might like to give it a go.

Little too far for me in West Sussex for a regular thing i’m afraid, although it does look like a good venue. the SW London meet is closer to me than this one.

Might be able to do it occasionally though, once the car comes back…

Ah yes, what a twit I am. I just assumed the hours would facilitate weeknights but well done for actually checking that!

OK, so a weekend morning it is then! This maybe pushes this concept more towards a once every 2 or 3 months then. Like a sunday morning/lunch, maybe paired with a drive out somewhere, maybe to the coast.

I'll ruminate on it for a bit and see what I think of. Until then I'll see if any interest occurs.

That format would appeal to me for an occasional meet. Maybe just once/twice a year.

I think an occasional weekend meet would be good.
