Post Amendment:

As per the comments below, A quick amendment to specify a date. Or rather dates.

The first North Wales meet summer drive out will be Saturday 21st August
1. DrewR3
2. ProActive
3. GoodEggBob

The second if it is a success can be Saturday 18th September
1. DrewR3
2. Metelyk
3. NickP
4. DaveKimberly

If there is enough uptake this can become a monthly outing I am happy to lead with during summer.

Areas to cover:

Timings - I would suggest a 1000hrs initial meet at Llandudno Junction Tesco (Momentum on tap for those wishing to fill beforehand) to depart at 1015hr down the valley towards Snowdonia

Meet points - Those coming from England there is a Shell garage at the beginning of the A55 near Queensferry which is a popular RV to convoy in and as above meet in Llandudno junction to progress as a group.

Routes - TBC please drop any ideas.

Food and drink somewhere midway or at the end? Recommendations? - In 2017 we had a private function room at the Quay Hotel in Deganwy for a meal, which is very good and I have contacts there if this is what people would like to do again. We would need about 10 people plus for this option and as it is on the A55 would be after the drive out.

I myself am right next to the A55 in Conwy, so I imagine I will join the convoy late as I am probably the closest.

The Evo triangle is covered in average speed cameras now btw if people haven't been lately and were going to recommend that as part of the drive? Still a nice road but the entirety is covered.
I am happy to make this a monthly thing if it appeals,
I am also not concerned about how long they are but recognise others may want to restrict milage especially when travelling to the start point.
I have posted two routes as a taster, but there could be hundreds.
I will go with the flow, I have a few clients who could supply refreshments along the journey to break things up, as well as photo opportunities.

The 548 i do quite regular and last time i drove it (2 weeks roughly) it was dug up with horrendous lights as you drop into llanrwst. Rest of that looks good though.

Drove it yesterday all repairs are finished with no potholes or lights.
It's actually in the best state of repair it's been in for years, very fast road.
Also the A470 has all its cats eyes removed now so that's also in great nick.

A loop of mid Wales may suit others as well as a loop of Anglesey so plenty of scope for other drives, others may want to chip in.

You will have to forgive the lack of accurate road numbers but hopefully you will get where im going with this and ill research the route properly, my thought was -

Meet Tesco Junction

Across the bridge to conwy and through the castle wall, taking the B5106 road down to Dolgarrog past surf snowdonia

Stay on the B5106 towards llanrwst and turn off for the B road to Betws Y Coed, over betws bridge and turn left on a5 to go through betws towards padog bends

Padog bends up to pentrfoelas and left for the moors off the a543 at the "Evo" triangle for photo ops up there.

Turn down at the point of the evo triangle back towards the a5 on the B4501 to cerrigydrudion , down the a5 straight and turn for Fron-goch to meet the a4212 to bleanau ffestiniog and back to Betws on the A470.

A5 towards Bethesda and upto the a55 to come back across the coast.

Thats my local areas with epic roads and twistys.

Be aware that North Wales Police are getting even more active on the roads this year...
https://www.northwales.police.uk/news/n ... the-roads/

They're currently filming another series of this, which you don't want to feature in...
https://www.northwales.police.uk/news/n ... en-before/

Enjoy the cars and the roads, while maintaining good observation ;)

Even more active😅 actually seeing a traffic cop would double activity.
Complete absence from the roads during covid allowing punters free and easy access to North Wales during restrictions.
Relying on people to supply dash cam footage instead of doing their job is a joke, but not surprising as they are generally comedian's
I do around 200 miles a day on mainly the A55 and B roads, and can go weeks without seeing nothing but traffic wombles, the B roads in North Wales are so good that sticking to the speed limits is enough of a thrill to be fair.

It's as good as anything, can I just suggest we use it, and just go from there.
Not sure how these things work, do we go in convoy and stick together as much as we can, or do we decide on the next stop and meet up again before moving on?
I can see now how Rob making a plan for everyone would be beneficial as I assume not everyone attending will be familiar and will need some guidance.
All new to me, I will go with the flow.

Snowdonia Drive Out

The idea, is to stick together in a convoy Simon  , otherwise there is no real point in doing a drive out around the countryside ;)

The reason i asked is that some may need to join the route from else where, or peel off half way round, a little more detail to the chosen route would help these. in my opinion, this close to the date, a solid route with times needs to be chosen and adhered to, thanks, rob. :thumleft:

From last experience the simplest thing to do is drive in a convoy and if you lose sight of the car behind you slow down until it catches up, the car in front if you “should” do the same. Traffic lights and junctions can be challenging.
Plotting the route into Google maps and circulating to all attendees is the best if you have rendezvous points along the route.
First and last cars should always have each other’s numbers as a minimum.

Chris mentioned this to me as i used to organise the annual Mid Wales runs with Sagar before covid!

As long as you don't mind an ex member of course, I might be able to pop along but i can't commit until closer to the time. No RX8 now though so you'd have to put up with a 1 series BMW lol.

Sorry for delay i have been driving the coastal perimeter of wales in under 24hrs to raise money for RAFA. Im back, rested and paying attention again now.

Happy to use this route and i know the roads well so i can be lead if needs be. I also have x2 radios that i used during the charity event to stay in contact with other car. These can keep lead and rear cars in contact.

Yes we will convoy out and stop for breaks, photo opertunitys like the pictures i posted before.

Yes thats great thank you chris. This is the route we will use. Meet at the Tesco store for fuel up.

If others want to join at different points thats fine, but im not sure how many other routes into wales other than the A55 and A5 from mid wales there are. I think most will come a55 which is why the route starts there. Perhaps those coming up the A5 could meet us at the start of the evo triangle?
