Flipping heck that's not including the underside then only the cavities? That's a fair amount maybe cheaper buying 5litres and a spray gun with nozzle ?

Like i said Tom,that is only my opinion. its all relative. some people would think nothing of spending 100+ on a fancy drop link set,but these wont stop your car rusting, even though it sounds good down the pub, i see rust proofing as protecting my investment, and, although it wont create as much of a talking point as a spoiler or a bolt on mod, it will ensure that i have a car worthy of bolting mods to in the future.but, like i said, each to his own, rob.

I'm going to be picking up some cavity wax for this meet.
I was talking to a pal of mine who owns a canal boat and he told to get Vactan and apply that first before the cavity wax. He doesn't use a cavity wax though but most of them will use this instead of Kurust.
Anyone ever used it?

works great if youve got a few hours to let it work.

@goodeggbob how long does it take to apply the wax. If I could do some of it in the ground and only where I need to get under, put it on the ramp, I might save time for someone else who will want to use the ramp too?

Thanks dude, would it be better to do the Vactan prior to coming to the meet? Maybe minimise ramp time on the day?

There is a post on here somewhere for some discount for Vactan from the supplier.

Depends what you want to do and how bad the car is ideally you want to wire brush the hole underside and have it really nice and clean so de grease it all and then jetwash again and then let try and Vactan then look at applying your underseal and do the cavities.

I was going to do the box sections up at robs as he has the expertise how to do that and you won't need to Vactan them as you can't get into them. Once cavities are done it's just a case of doing what I said above at some point but you would really want a whole day to do it all properly as you wouldn't want to rush and not clean everything properly beforehand.

There is nothing stopping you bringing it all up and having a go at the subframe or part of the car etc on the ramp to get a feel for it etc but don't be surprised if it doesn't all get done?

Good morning all, there seems to be a lot of uncertainty about which products to use and how to go about applying them. this is to be expected given the amount of opinions and products available. the methods and products that i have suggested are what i have found work for me,but are certainly not the only solution.
There are so many variables to this topic, for example,is the car badly rusted to begin with, are the conditions right ie temp and moisture? how thorough do i want to be? how much do i want to spend? how much time have i got?
One thing i have found is that the box cavities are difficult, but not impossible to inspect prior to treatment, but this obviously would involve a camera, followed by finding a method of getting some vactan up there, followed by a long wait for it to take effect.
To achieve these sort of results, take a look at Phil Bates Kuro project,to give some idea of how thorough you could be, i really admire what he has achieved with his car,and would love to do the same one day ,but is probably, logistically ,beyond most of us.
The only advice i would give, and even this would be disputed by others, particularly companies who do this for a living come rain or shine, would be, only do this when the conditions are right,ie a scorching hot day, when all moisture has been driven from car, only after areas have been thoroughly cleaned and repaired[welded],and when you have enough time on your hands.
However, its not all doom, given the right conditions ,and all the stars align,i can say with some experience, that the whole underside of the car,inc box sections, can be easily done in about 30 mins, especially if a second person is on hand to pull out bungs to gain access ,and to remove wheels, liners etc. hope this helps, rob. :-k

Details on Vactan here
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=53657
It would be good to confirm that the offer still works.

The product is great for anywhere you can get access with a brush, though it can be sprayed.
Not so good for box sections as it's water-based and needs air to complete the reaction with the existing rust, and to dry off.

In good drying conditions (over 15C and non-condensing) it's over-paintable in about an hour; very easy to tell as it goes on cream/white, then turns pale blue, then purple/blue and finally blue/black.

The surface must be grease free and all flaky rust removed first.

You could go up on the ramp, quick wire brush, slap on Vactan on all the appropriate surfaces.
Come down off the ramp, giving someone else a go, while yours dries/cures, then back up for a cavity and surface wax coatings

Tom makes a very good point about procedure, given that we have a lot of people and limited time, coupled with the difficulty in accessing cavities with rust converter, it may be a good idea to just treat the boxes ,and inspect larger areas for future treatment.
anyone needing to return on an individual basis would be more than welcome, rob.

Yeah that'd what I'm thinking Rob wouldn't want to rush this sort of thing so a good check over and completion of the box sections is a great step in the right direction. As you say wheel arches etc are going to possibly be damp from the drive

I will call the company about the rust convertor on Monday tried this morning and went to answer phone to see if we can get the deal on 5L

when i bought my hydrate 80 ,it was cheaper to deal with the company direct ,rather than thru ebay.
