Free Car Lift, Barbecue and Luke Murdoch - Saturday 26th October from 8.30am

Post by goodeggbob » Wed Aug 21, 2019 8:58 pm

Good evening everyone, this topic has been brushed on before, but things have changed over the last few days. Having spoken to Luke, we came up with the idea of having a day at my place for any members needing Luke to work on their cars with the use of a car lift . Please realise that this is very much an idea at the moment, but briefly it would involve people booking Luke themselves, then using my ramp all on the same day, either at the beginning or at the end of one of his road trips up country. Obviously the amount of work he can take on in one day will be determined by the nature of the work, and this will take a of very close communication and cooperation. It goes without saying, that any bookings with Luke would have to be definites and not maybes, because whilst I am flexible at weekends, we cannot expect Luke to be.

Thanks, Rob. :thumright:

Just to make it clear, the use of lift is free, barbie is bring a burger, but Luke is not on the house.

Hello all, I have spoken to Luke today and he may turn up on the day. I really don't want to get involved in the Luke/customer bit, so anyone wanting his services should contact him directly in good time on 07415 220 781 . I have his permission to post his number,so he would expect your calls.
All i ask is that any arrangements made outside of this post, regarding this post are logged here, simply to keep track of numbers, thanks, Rob.

Your correct, Luke will not be "on the house" he will be in the barn!
I don't need any work done by Luke but will enjoy a BBQ with fellow rotarians.
Depend at on the date of course.
An excellent idea and hopefully it will become a reality.

The obstacle here of course is who would commit first, would it be 5 or six customers and then book Luke or get Luke to provisionally book and then search for interested parties. i really am after some ideas on this. :-k

Having thought a bit more, this is probably only going to interest people who are in no big hurry to get things done,ie non emergency, because on this day the customer comes to Luke instead of the other way round.

An engine swap and the day is gone on one car.
Probably an idea to do a list of jobs and how many of each Luke could potentially complete in a day.
Also of course for perhaps jobs such as pad changes, coil changes, compression tests etc; the ramp would not be required so members who can do these jobs could perhaps "help" other members who are not as mechanically able.
Not wishing to take work from Luke but more trying to get more cars there and worked on.

It's a shame you are so far away, I would enjoy meeting up with people and having a look around some of the forum cars.

Chris ,you make a good point about some jobs are easily done on the ground,so lets say the lift is available if needed. However,it is very useful for anyone wanting to do a detailed inspection of the underside of car,and catching any problem areas of future corrosion.
i will speak to Luke and see what he thinks, but for now,is anyone actually needing his services on a given day.

Heya Rob,
I'm speaking with Luke now. Not sure when it can happen. I've got a clutch to replace before too long...

If we've got some time while it's up maybe do some rust prevention while I'm at it?

I'm always keen for a Barby, rain, hail or sunshine

I have no need of Luke's services, but wouldn't mind the opportunity to get the R3 up on a ramp,to give the underside, plus subframes, suspension arms, etc. a fresh coat of Frost Chassis Black coach paint ;)

None of that messy waxoyl/underseal on this car, dontcha know [-X

hello ,on reading most of the replies so far ,it would appear that perhaps the title should be changed to meet up/barbie,and if there is some time, do some smaller jobs on our cars with a ramp being available, but plenty of level yard space for jacks, axle stands etc.
so i will put it another way. does anybody fancy a barbecue, and do some work on their cars in the company of a pool of shared knowledge?
i do see that 1 major job on the ramp could tie it up for a day,so is probably best used for doing loads of simple jos ie inspections, please post up what you think about this.rob.
