Old Friends seem to be cropping up everywhere today. An old friend of the Shropshire meet will be unable to attend in September as he is on holiday following a crash diet.

Oh I see, it's under Announcements. Well done for keeping it up to date Nigel. No-one's going to see it when they click Events though.
I can add a repeating monthly Event that just acta as a placeholder for 'Upcoming Events' and points to Announcements for details. Hopefully that'll grab people's attention
