TIME: 10.15 meet for 10.30am start

START LOCATION: an easy to reach parking spot just of the A12 near Chelmsford (details will be provided to particpants)

There will be an approximately 1 hour convoy drive around some lovely Essex roads (sadly with potholes in places!) and scenery. The route largely follows one that ex-Chairman Ray Harrison (RIP) developed about 15 years ago.

FINISH: ~11.45am at Heybridge Basin (CM9 4RS)
LUNCH: Noon at the "Jolly Sailor" pub, Heybridge Basin: https://www.thejollysailorheybridgebasin.co.uk/index.
We will time our arrival to be just as the pub opens, which means there ought to be ample parking space in the pub car park.
NOTE: the pub has ANPR cameras, so you must register your car in the pub and not stay longer than 3 hours.
There is a reasonably priced public car park within a short distance, should anyone wish to stay longer - there are some nice walks in the area, if the weather is nice

Thanks Malcolm, was a good team effort again in the planning of today's meet in the drive & pub lunch!
Bit stressful today in leading the convoy today especially along the country lanes, cyclists, runners, sat nav taking me on different routes, more cyclists & shouting old lady's! Lol but we did to see another Rx8 on our drive!!!

Essex & Surrounding Counties Christmas drive & lunch, Sunday 15 December 2024

Please post up in here asap if you [+guest(s)] wish to come along to this event. You can chose to do the Drive and/or Lunch, so "pick n mix" as you wish

Drive - we will meet at the "Horse and Groom" pub carpark between 10 and 10.30am for a Convoy Drive around the local countryside at 10.30am. The pub is just south of Chelmsford, in "Horse and Groom Lane, CM2 8PJ. See map below.

Lunch - we will return to The Horse and Groom for our Christmas lunch at noon. There is a Christmas menu; 2 courses £23 or 3 courses £28 (see below)- or you can opt to eat from the regular pub menu. Menus can be found on the pub Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/HorseandGroomGalleywood/

The pub will require a £10pp deposit for lunch. If you post up in here, Steve or I will PM you with payment details.

Thanks guys for continuing to organize the Essex Meet, we'll definitely bring back the adjoining counties (Suffolk) meet in the Spring!
Hopefully, with the early call for the next meet we'll have numbers confirmed well in advance and we will not be asked to squeeze around two tables!!
I think we should order separately too, as long as the kitchen is made aware that we are altogether and it we'll save time dissecting the bill at the end.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have ended up back in my RX-8, despite putting it away for winter, thanks to my Jaguar coming over all British. Who would have thought the RX-8 would be the reliable one?!

I will politely decline on the food, (really not a fan of roast dinners), but pop me down for the drive in my 40AE (subject to passing the MOT next week )
