Cool, I'll join the September Snetterton meet
Me and Simon should be free for the usual July meet if anyone else is about?

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 25th August ***7.15pm***
I'm not likely to be at this months meet as I'll be heading to the Annual Meet on the 2nd of September, but I will be at the September 29th meet following the track day. Which is just up the road for me.
It is a shame that there is not more interest and RX8s at the Essex meet! I notice that "Meets" are no longer listed on the clubs Facebook page!? If the meets are to continue would it be a good idea to do a mention on the Fb page?

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Thank you Nigel for posting up about this meet
I've accepted an invitation to share a drive in someone else's RX-8 at Donington on 27 Oct, so I will not be back in time to make this meet
I have had a lot of diary clashes this year with the Essex Meets but I WILL make the next meet in November!!

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Hi Nigel
Should I put something up on the Facebook page to see if we can muster up a bit more interest? Personally I'd like the venue to have a car park where we could maybe line up the RX8s? What about an option of a Sunday brunch now the nights are drawing in?
Any suggestions, anyone?

Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Derek this monthly meet was set up by a founder member called Harrizone who was a dear friend for a lot of us who attend this meet, so we are reluctant to change it around now
This monthly meet is already on Facebook, so if people want to come, they will come, but unfortunately you can't force them

I appreciate the rememberance of Ray, especially through an event he created, but I strongly suspect he would rather have stronger attendance numbers than for the event to stale and have minimal attendance.
But that may just be my interpretation

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Sadly I didn't know Harrizone and I'm not saying his name shouldn't be remembered, but it seems very few who knew him, now attend! I think it's 3 and only one has an RX8 on the road. The club surely is about the car and to encourage more members to attend maybe there could be the Harrizone Meet and separate Essex/Suffolk/Herts Meet? The monthly Meet is not advertised on the RX-8 Owners Club UK Facebook page that is run by Ann Carter with nearly 1O,OOO members and there is no mention of Meets on the clubs official Fb page when you click the F icon on the top of this page! Where are you posting the information?
No, you can't force anyone to attend, but by using all options that are available you can go a lot further in getting the information to all platforms.
As the Meet is more about the memory of Harrizone and not about the RX8, it is a long way to drive, so I won't be attending.

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
I think perhaps the last two posts have rather forgotten that it is important to retain the event due to its links to the Club’s history and a former member. Rather than criticise perhaps they should suggest how to improve the event so it has broader appeal, or fully take on the organisation of it themselves.

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
I appreciate your sentiment Andy, however I mentioned my thoughts as other newer members may not have felt able to question a statement like that from the events team admin.
Likewise, I'm not from the area, so am not in a position to suggest any improvements - that said the few we have held at C&M have been well attended. Perhaps there is a similar venue down there?
The suggestion that someone should take over the organisation of it for themselves if they have any suggestions to improve it is a bit of a jump when the events team admin is currently organising it.

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
A meet being a long way away is a good reason not to attend in these days of high fuel costs but rather than make this an issue here perhaps you should try to organise a meet nearer to yourself which may well also be nearer to several other club members and thus become an addition meet on the clubs calendar.Red & Black wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 11:28 pmSadly I didn't know Harrizone and I'm not saying his name shouldn't be remembered, but it seems very few who knew him, now attend! The F link on the forum header does not lead to the official RX-8OC group which does have a list maintained by Nigel off all the monthly meets and more that take place. The F button not leading to this group has been mentioned before but remains unchanged.
Have a look here Derek https://www.facebook.com/rx8oc/events note the subtle difference in the page name versus here https://www.facebook.com/RX8OCUK/events

I took over the running of this monthly meet, as Gary could no long orgainise the meet due to his work load, having taken over from Ray in 2017
I live the otherside of Gatwick Airport and have to fight my way through a lot of traffic via the Dartford Tunnel to get to this, but I still come as it's the people that go to this meet and not because of owning the car that attracts me, as we have car shows for that purpose during the year
There was a similar event down the road to C&M that took place on Sunday's, but unfortunately the various drivers ie joe public that spoilt it for everyone else, by revving the nuts off their cars and racing up and down the road pass some posh expensive houses, who's owners understandablely complained to the venue and were therefore forced to close it's doors to car event meets
A similar thing happened at Fuel Stop that's only 9miles from my home, as they aren't allowed to hold car club events there anymore
Anyway I wish you luck finding a venue near Bury St.Edmunds Derek and hopefully you're get lot's of RX-8's turn up on your weekend meets
As for me , at the moment with all that has happened on this thread within the last 24hrs , has put a damper on me thinking, why should I bother coming all the way to this Essex Monthly Meet anymore

In terms of a location within 60-90mins of a widespread area.
What about this place for a pre Christmas meet.
They offer a 2-course Xmas menu at £16.99 less a 33% discount if booked before 30/10/23.
Would there be any takers for last week of November/first week December? Maybe on a Wednesday night as roads would be quieter than on a Friday?
That said, there is a Premier Inn next door so we could drink and sleep over if we go on a Friday.

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Had you've scrolled further up the page you would of seen that I had made suggestions, as the current Essex Meet format looks to be teetering on the edge of collapse! Far be it for me to tread on anyone's toes and set up a Meet in the area of the Essex & Adjoining Counties, which includes my county Suffolk. Speaking to other members at various Club Meets I've attended this year, it has become apparent that there are options and channels to explore and I was merely trying to help and support the Meet and the integrity of Ray Harrison, who's name clearly means [judging by the comments] an awful lot to long term members.Metelyk wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 12:27 amI think perhaps the last two posts have rather forgotten that it is important to retain the event due to its links to the Club’s history and a former member. Rather than criticise perhaps they should suggest how to improve the event so it has broader appeal, or fully take on the organisation of it themselves.

Re: Essex & Adjoining Counties Meet - FRIDAY 27th October ***7:30pm***
Thank you. For someone that is still relatively new to the RX-8OC, I am still finding my way around the club's social media platforms which include three Facebook pages [includes RX-8OC]. I had already discarded the FB page that I now know contains a full list of Meets, only because there has been no posts added to it since September 2O21! I just glanced at it and thought it had been abandoned and the other FB pages had superseded it!ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:47 amA meet being a long way away is a good reason not to attend in these days of high fuel costs but rather than make this an issue here perhaps you should try to organise a meet nearer to yourself which may well also be nearer to several other club members and thus become an addition meet on the clubs calendar.
In no way was I trying to put the cat amongst the pigeons! Please peruse my comments to Metelyk, who took a similar swipe at me without knowing what my honest intentions were.
