If you want to argue with someone on the phone, then crack on, but a national (or sometimes global) insurance company isn't about to put their company portfolio in to risk just because someone got sh*t with them on the phone.
That brings me to another point
Why is that they can magically reduce the premium by when you call them to query a renewal quote?
Nothing to do with statistics, just an ethos of "how much can we get away with charging?"

That's normal corporate greed and not specific to insurance companies in my experience. Try calling Sky to cancel, suddenly you'll realise just how cheap they can make it.

Likewise people open barter with insurance companies, but take other prices as fixed. More fool them I say. I've got discounts on my shopping in Tesco by bartering with the customer service people.

Everything that is sold is done so on the ethos of 'how much can we get away with?'

Im only interested in "me and my car " and what I have to pay.
I don't give two hoots about anybody elses , why would I ?
I have 30 yrs no claims bonus ,have no points on my license and I want an insurance policy that is fairly priced "for me"...!
Now if im not worthy of a reasonable quote then who is?
Its a lottery otherwise I would get a reasonable price each and every time but I don't , I have to search around for a company that sees me for what I am...a reasonably safe risk to them.
Over and out...!

If you go to flux with a bone stock car you may get a worse quote than if you went to direct line, however if your car is heavily modified direct line may ramp up the price where at flux understand and they won't put much of any on top. It's only a lottery if you contact your insurance companies using chatroulette, is that still a thing? If you target who you call you should get similar quotes, when u quote shop they vary by 25% Max and can be haggled to pretty much the lowest bidder, that is as I target who I call.

I had a great deal with Adrian Flux for my Supercharged Rx8, well worth giving them a go.

REIS Motorsport gave me a great deal that included 6 track days cover and an agreed £15k value for less than it would cost to insure a car 6 times for track days!

Flux quoted me almost 9K for my MR-S with a turbo conversion and other mods
Lancaster's quoted 235 with an agreed value, lower excess and more miles.

As I've said before Flux have NEVER quoted anywhere near competitively for me

Can I just reiterate what I said about them not only focussing on the risk you personally represent?

'Why would I?'

Because then maybe you'd get the answer to your question and info explaining why it isn't "A lottery".

Also, because we share the whole world with loads of people, so perhaps thinking of your fellow man and their circumstances might be nice.

But ultimately, if you're interested in you and your car, and how much that'll cost you, use a comparison website and buy from whoever is cheapest...

Be aware that comparison websites don't offer the best deal either

Just going to chip in here - after being left in the lurch by my current provider (not their fault tbf, their underwriter stopped taking new quotes and had suspended renewals due to an internal re-shuffle and their other providers weren't able to help), Adrian Flux came through with quotes for the car, the van, and the bike that came in just a little more expensive than last year (another £100 or so) - not bad considering the state of the insurance market at the moment, and significantly better than any other quote I was getting, by a country mile!
