help reading RX8 LOG (alleged tune help)

Post by DionLFC »

So i have slight alleged problem with my car,

from the records my car is tuned to a different coil, d585, and currently its using the original Mazda coils.

I have a couple screenshots of my logs and if anyone could read them and be able to detect if anything seems wrong (like a different tune) would be much
appreciated.

Im having major 'misfire' like issues on idle as shown in my last post, so again if anyone can read it maybe the idle screenshot will show whats wrong?

20 Seconds Idle screenshot link: https://gyazo.com/aafaa2486a192095dbf1a80f99d4c63b

3 gear WOT pull to pretty much redline with a gear shift at end to fourth : https://gyazo.com/3922b45e2abbd51047736b739a5cf291

It might not be the correct measurements but i have all different kinda of logs on these screenshots that ive hidden so if you need to see something else
let me know

again would be much appreciate if any help
thanks

If your dwell timing has been changed to run the d585s the car won't like other coils so could be causing your problems

I'd recommend a remap or changing back to d585s as a starting point

I'm no good with data logs but sure someone will be able to have a look and give you other possible causes for your issues :thumleft:

RRP can reset your PCM tune back to standard and then make any further changes as you request, e.g. cold rev limit.

This can be done by post if it's easier.

I’m already in talks with RRP about it but he’s a busy dude and I wanted to see if anyone could see anything obvious off the bat so I can gauge where I’m at with no coils etc.

If you think it has a d585.

Log:
Afr (actual) vs maf vs rpm on WOT pull, and ezport it as csv file. Its very dificult to read from a graph

And vith versa there is no way to log anything that will tell if it has dwell timing altered.
Though imho idle should be ok with either maps (oem or d585)

you can remove the vin from the CSV.. also its a public data so your not hiding to much...

the thing with logging, log only what you need, not a bunch of data! The obd can read lets say 180 times a second (a very good one with usb connection) you split those reads between the items you do log. ie if you log 100 items, they will al be read only 2 times.. loking at your log screenshots its no where near that fast but I could be wrong...

the wot pul looks oem rich actually from graph, so it hasn't been tuned for such at least but need the csv to know actual numbers..

It may have just had "a mini map" as it was called, that just changes the dwell for the coils, suppresses CELs, etc, without doing anything to the actual fueling.

I cant remember now if the obd data stream will output the dwell but I highly doubt it. than he could use one of other logging sw on android and usb adapter (assuming the obd tool is usb capable)

If you’re looking to get something sorted sooner i might be able to help.
I Can flash it back to standard or a mini map without the dwell adjustments 👍

dwell is not available via the mazda OBD table I'm afraid
I agree with the others, if its had D585's on there and mapped for them it will have toasted the OEM coils

and as Dan says probably overwriting it with the stock / mini map is the fix

It’s weird though because I’ve had these oem coils 9000 miles and it’s still pulling extremely hard only have weird idle roughness on cold start

The dwell for the 585s will have been working your coils too hard so wouldn't be surprised if they're fried or are close to it

They will have been OK for a while, as you've experienced, then will give up

Would definitely take Dan up on his offer (Lucky8) or go back to 585s before you end up with further issues

It could have been running 585's without the dwell change*, which means than oem coils would be fine.
The current idling issues might not be related.

*It's been more recently proven that making the dwell change for 585's actually takes them beyond the design duty cycle at (or near) the max revs of a 231; so probably not a good idea anyway. I ran mine for 7 years without the dwell change and had no issues, and the benefit of being able to swap back to oem at any time.

Do you suggest I stop driving the car now then or what’s the move from here would you suggest?
