I disagree
Standard low mileage rust free 2.5 mx5’s are demanding 4k+ then when you incorporate the engineering involved I’d say it’s worth every penny.

in all its guises ( except the rare turbo version) the mx5 lump has less power and torque than the renny and its heavier and bigger

so not much of an upgrade except in fuel economy

But you can stick a turbo on it and get a reliable 300bhp out of it and a good increase in torque. All that with better reliability than a stock renesis.

The mk1 n 2 engine both 1.6 and 1.8 have a rod limit of 250ftlb so tune with that in mind 250bhp. My eunos 1.6bp engine is dynod at 236rwhp...with 14% transmission losses that 270bhp.. but due to the 1.6 producing less torque that the 1.8 and the tune the torque is 226ftLB...close lol but 16 hard trackdays on it.
Its 2 secs slower round combe than the Renny Westfield but its still 1.17s and fun.. and touch wood been pretty reliable.
However the original conversion is not cheap.
Rad IC injectors turbo and manifold and 2.5 or 3 " exhaust. Ecu. Tuning etc. It came be done cheap but those builds are unreliable.
I miss the revs of rotarys but 7250 aint bad in a mx5. ....and still got the 7. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
