Quiet but free flowing cat-back exhaust

Post by 350matt »

So then gents

I've been running a Toyo catback for the last 4 years and and now considering getting something a bit quieter but I don't want to revert to stock
what are my options? any reccommendations for a free-flowing setup thats reasonably quiet ?

It depends on what cat/delete your running and what manifold you have, isn't the racing beat fairly tame?

I've got a 300 cell cat with a home made midpipe with a straight through silencer on that and then paired to a Toyo manifold
possibly my catback has had it of course
this one looks promising

Certainly made to the same design and I suspect in the same factory, just different writing on the boxes.

the advantage of the Japspeed item ( at least the one I've seen) is that there is an extra silencer on the pipe between back boxes and cat

not sure I want to pay 400 notes for it mind

A borla is free flowing, but could never be described as quiet

I have to disagree. When i fitted mine and LiamK followed me through a tunnel he didnt even noticed id changed the exhaust. Its not much louder than stock just deeper. I bought it from John as he was changing it out for the petit due to the fact it was too quiet

Borla is LOUD with an unresonated decat, or just a rich tone with the oem cat.

Resonated decats or sports cat....

I found the borla to be the loudest so far, had OEM, Remus, borla then removed that to fit the Ryan rotary performance exhaust, I am running a high flow resonated cat and racing beat manifold. The manifold did increase the sound levels significantly this was fitted after the borla was fitted and then the borla was swapped for the RRP and the level reduced

I just dont understand how these Borlas are so loud? Mine is not at all. Im running a full decat and its not 101db, ive just been out at anglesey and it was no where near loud compared to others

I *think* it was SteveD that was working on another members car with a Pettit catback that was way quieter than anyone else's.

It was brought to Steve because it was becoming more and more reluctant to rev out, just as you sometimes get with a failing cat, only it had a decat.

Eventually Steve discovered chunks of the previous cat jammed inside the catback, that were a bugger to remove even with the system back off the car.

Thanks Christine. And youve just been with me when it had the decat on! With the oem cat its barely noticeable

I never had Borla
But from experience
Petitt is fine with double resonated decat or cat
Racing beat is nice and not loud at all
Re amemiya is good to
Cobra is good with double resonated or cat

The only one exhaust i struggle with was HKS single exit this was loud
And toyo is not my cup of tea

+1 for Racing Beat, I wouldn’t want anything louder personally.

Mine noise tests around 86db with RB catback and high flow cat.

Bear in mind that there are two variations of the Borla, model 140078 & 1014015. The latter is the only one produced new nowadays and is a homologated EC-Approved version that is designed to comply with stricter noise and emission regulations in the EU (and thus ends up quieter as a result!).

The 140078 can be quite loud indeed, with a lovely deep tone. All depends on the rest of the exhaust system setup of course!

I would never describe my Pettit Cat Back as quiet, its quite the opposite when mated to an un-resonated Gravity de-cat. When doing motorway miles with the wife & son in the car between 3krpm & 4krpm it was almost oppressive, especially when driving up inclines - it got so bad I've put a couple of duvets in the boot to reduce the boom considerably. The same rev range when I'm alone isn't bad at all though, less load on the engine I guess....

Don't get me wrong, I love it but the wife isn't as much of a fan, good job its only my weekend warrior :thumright:
