Repair panels

Post by Dave »

Afternoon all,

I'm looking for a set of decent repair panels for the sills/rear arches.

I heard the man for this is Shambo, but I'm under the impression he is no longer on here?

Anyone any idea where to go for these?

Mazda are charging circa £2k for the sills and rear quarters.....

Cheers.

Hi,
I bought myself a non runner with very good sills so that when the time came I could cut out the panels I needed
There’s still a few around with good panels, a breaker may let you turn up with a disc cutter ;)
Worth a thought

I certainly considered it. Even swapping my motor over to a non runner.

Cheers

Not first-hand but there's been good reports on here and even discussion about the OC commissioning some for Club Shop stock.

I'm pretty sure that is the same supplier, just operating out of a UK address.

It would still be useful to hear if anyone has used this particular "source" though.

Has anyone got any recommendations of where to get this done please - sills fitted and painted?

Been quoted at £900 for one side by a local shop..!

+1 for the donor car idea, that is what I did when mine rotted away.
if you are lucky and find the right one and are handy with a tool kit you can get it for less than the £900 you have been quoted.

It is a lot of work to replace the rear quarter panel/arch as it is a triple skin area and once welded in place the whole side of the car is likely to require painting. This will be the scenario even if you have parts cut from a breaker.

Cheers,

I fully expect to have to paint the car. There are issues elsewhere that need paintwork anyway, so a respray was always in the pipeline.

I think I will be going with the eBay panels. I have sourced OEM inner arches for the rear that integrate the end panel of the sills.

Might be of interest, I watch a YouTube channel called Yorkshire car restorations, most of their work on the videos is on mx5s similar construction to the 8 and some significant repair on a Nissan 240 or similar, they may be close
