Re: Announcement: New recall for R3s

Post by acejase »

I've been holding off getting the recall done after reading some of the worrying experiences in this thread. Plus I have an aversion to leaving my car with main dealers. But needs must, so I got the work done at TW White & Sons in Bookham yesterday. Arrived at 8.30am, the service manager walked me around the car to agree on condition (quite reassuring, as I'm always paranoid that they'll add a new scratch or ding somewhere) and explained how the work was being carried out by their most experienced technician. They reckoned it would be done in around 2 hours, so just enough time to test drive a new MX-5 (quite good fun as it happens) and grab a coffee. It was all done by 10.15am. Went straight to the nearest Shell garage and brimmed the tank, no issues, then a spirited drive back home to Sussex, again with no leaks or issues to report. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Great to read a good experience. That encourages me to travel to have it done.

Baffles me even more so that my local dealer want the car for 2 days..

It's actually taken a long time to get the fuel to 1/4 for various reasons, the woes of it no longer being the daily!
I am intending to book it in this week, hopefully they can manage to do it in one day, I'll be nigh on insisting this time. :thumright:

Mine's in today. They want it for a couple of days because the repair process includes sending a picture of the repair to Mazda HQ to approve.

Mine is at Coventry Mazda as is being done by an engineer I know personally. He owns an RX-8 and knows them very well - would recommend 100% :)

I usually use mazda Bourne road Bexleyheath. They are usually very good.

Will be booking mine with them after I've been on my trip in October.

Had mine done today (finally) at Western Mazda Edinburgh. Absolutely well worth the drive from Glasgow for the service alone - friendly, chatty, and when I said I needed to be back in Glasgow before 6pm and could I please get it done early, they happily obliged and had it done by 12.30 for me. Courtesy car was not an issue, they even waived the £12 fee.

This also includes fitting the replacement fuel filter which I'd had them order in way back when I originally booked it.

Brimmed the tank just now, so far so good - will check again in the morning.

Update on my RX-8. I did finally get the MD of Lodge Garage to respond to my complaint and he came round to look at the stains on our driveway. Tried to get it professionally cleaned but they won't come out. At least I got an apology but won't be using them again.

And then today this happens:

I thought I could smell fuel but I think Neil thought I was being paranoid after the issues with my R3. Went to fill her up, got about half full and then petrol is just pouring out from underneath. It's not leaking on the driveway so at least that's something.

Forgive me for suggesting you may have rats in your area. I wonder what you could spray underneath to put them off chewing anything else.
