Decent Garage for RX8 in Merseyside and Chesire?

Post by Treadway »

Hi All,

Advice and recommendations please......

Which garages in Cheshire and/or Liverpool and/or South Manchester can people recommend please?

I need the coil packs replacing and the oil cooler lines replacing. Places I have enquired with seem to have a bit of a scared look on their face when I say it's an RX8!

Many thanks,
Matt

Sorry can't help as North Wales is probably a little too far, but neither of those jobs should but any garage off, very strange.

My local garage is the same will only do basic things like tyres for an 8 anything even slightly engine related he won't touch

Hopefully another forum member can guide you to a local garage to help you as they are relatively simple jobs to do especially the coil packs, if you do decide to go to a specialist rotary place I think RotaryRevs is the closest to you? but that's probably to far for you in Batley

No direct experience but Silver Fern Performance in Holywell or Piston and Rotor in Bury would likely be able to get you sorted.

Silver Fern have been recommended to me, both times I have enquired they seemed expensive to me but you may get what you pay for.

Neither job should present any problems for a competent garage - oil cooler lines really no different to any other car

My local garage replaced my coils and plugs - I gave them a print out of the How To guide from here.....

You could always give Groub B motorsport a shout in Llandudno. Not sure if theyre taking on that kind of work at the moment as mainly rally prep. But they used to look after my PZ.

I've used Dwayne at Silver Fern performance before. Prices are fairly reasonable and he knows his stuff so I still use him when I'm out of my depth.

A very good shout, I'll look into them as I've not heard of them before. Thanks so much.

Update......
I have tried at least 10 garages in WA8. One guy told me they don't touch rotary engines, as even changing spark plugs is too complex. I said 'just spark plugs, too difficult' and he laughed down the phone at me. Like I was asking him to solve world hunger. Oh well....Mazda quoted £450 to do it!

Anyway, 192, 4 port.....I need 4 spark plugs right????? Please don't laugh. I'm just plucking up the courage to do these jobs myself. Seen an offer at euro car parts for approx £30 each plus free delivery.

Thanks everyone.

You need a pair of Leading plugs and a pair of Trailing Plugs

Those ECP prices are remarkably cheap

Which I hope reflects their bulk purchasing power and retail discounting, and not a grey import source, which is how they got caught selling fake NGK plugs last time

If your after plugs I would recommend the jp4mance eBay shop, around £85 for a set

First job I did on my car was the spark plugs, really easy much easier on the RX8 than the Jag I usually get my plugs from RotaryRevs but most rotary specialists etc you can't go wrong with buying parts from

My local garages won't touch anything complex or semi complex on an RX8 either so I usually travel have to travel down to Batley with mine about a 2 hour 30 drive when its something I can't do

Yep, drop him a message for a discount, got my plugs & leads from jp4mance, great guy to deal with.

If you have somewhere to do simple stuff, driveway, car park etc then £50 spent on tools would let you change the plugs yourself.
It may seem daunting, but there's probably more steps involved in making your dinner every day than there is in replacing the spark plugs ...
40th Anniversary 068/400 - RRP coils - Petit Racing Catback -Tein Street coilovers - 181rwhp... My ears are bleeding!!!
