Just wondered what the best thing to clean an SSV valve would be, with the valve removed from the manifold. Saw a video on YouTube where a guy used Berryman Chem-Dip, carburettor and parts cleaner. Dipped the SSV in that stuff for 15 mins and all the carbon crap just dropped off it. I can’t find that stuff over here so wondered if anyone had any suggestions for something that is available here at reasonable price? 😀

Brake clean will work.

I used Seafoam last time, only as I had some on the shelf.

Just ordered some sea foam as it happens, although that was more for decarbing the engine 😀

So just to continue, the cleaning seems to be bit of a pain but getting there. Just wondering, once the SSV is clean would it be prudent to clean the inlet manifold where the SSV mounts I.e. the bore diameter and where the little bronze/ brass bush is inside the inlet manifold? If so, what would you do this with? Am guessing that it’s not going to be desirable for anything removed to drop down into the inlet manifold.
Also I have a coolant reservoir with working sensor to fit. Cleaned it out with water, agitated it etc. but there’s still areas that have a reddish residue. I can easily removed this with cotton buds as far as they reach - but there’s areas I can’t get to at all. Is there something I can put in there eg brake cleaner that would remove the residue but not damage the sensor? Should I even worry about it at all?
Apologies for all the question, just want to get things as good as they can be before fitting.

The float in the coolant tank is already susceptible to sinking and setting the light, when the level is fine.

Anything that might attack the plastic foam, like a solvent or detergent, should be avoided.
