Remote Central Locking - not working...
Hi all.
I have a frustrating issue with one of our Rx8s. It has only one key. This key will start the car and it drives fine. But, the remote Central locking doesn't work. We have tried the on/off open and close the doors procedure several times and the car does all the things it is meant to do in terms of clicking the locks etc, but the key will not work. I even tried taking one of the old remote modules from my now broken up RX8 and it just does the same thing.
My old man took it to Mazda who said it needed a new module of some kind, he wasn't paying attention so I am not exactly sure which one it is. Since I have just stripped my old 192 I have all the modules to hand, I just don't know which ones are which.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I am wondering if it's the receiver in the car that needs replacing. Where is it located?

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
Don't think so. I'll need to ask.
Edited
No it doesn't open the boot either. Only works in the locks, no remote features at all.
(It's a nemesis incase that matters)

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
So it sounds like the module behind the glove box has packed up, unfortunately it’s linked to the ecu, so you would need to change the ecu, module , ignition barrel and locks with a known working set.

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
OK Thanks
I assume that this the little black box with 3x white connectors on it?
I have all the parts from my old 8, so could use that. That's gonna be a PIA.

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
I take it there is nothing that can be done using FORscan or similar to reset the modules or forget the exiting key and start fresh?

I’m sure you’ve thought about and done it but have you changed the key battery? Sometimes it’s the little things…

There is, but you need two working keys to reprogram.Calcifur83 wrote:I take it there is nothing that can be done using FORscan or similar to reset the modules or forget the exiting key and start fresh?

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
Not through Forskin you don't. You can delete ALL the keys and program new ones - at least you can for the ignition, pretty sure you can for the central locking alsoVj4sothername wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 9:45 amThere is, but you need two working keys to reprogram.Calcifur83 wrote:I take it there is nothing that can be done using FORscan or similar to reset the modules or forget the exiting key and start fresh?

haha, nice to see it's not just me that calls it that!
So maybe I could try wiping the memory and starting again.

Worst case you still don't have central locking, but you will still be able to code the immobiliser chip to the carCalcifur83 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:04 amhaha, nice to see it's not just me that calls it that!

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
OK Cool, I will try that then. I have all the bits to do a complete swap if I need to. But would be good to find another option so I will I will have a play with Forscan and see what happens.Dr. FrankenRex wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 2:19 pmWorst case you still don't have central locking, but you will still be able to code the immobiliser chip to the carCalcifur83 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:04 amhaha, nice to see it's not just me that calls it that!

fyi you don't need to change the ignition switch and locks, just change the blade in the key into the new remotes.

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
Well, we now have 1x full operational key! But, the process was not without its moments.
Step 1 was to erase all keys currently coded to the car, there were 3x apparently. Easy enough, until Forscan tells me that I need a minimum of 2x keys to be immediately recoded, or else the car won't start.!! foolishly thinking it meant the bits with the buttons on it, I continued only to find out that is not what it meant. Instead, it means 2 actual keys. Oops. Anyway, I pushed on and went ahead and did the door dance to reprogram the remote. I should mention that I swapped out the buttons on my dad's keys with a set from my dead rx8. It worked! so now I was stuck with a key that opened the doors and locked the doors remotely, but wouldn't start the car.....
Step 2. fix my mistake....
I had a brain wave!!! So the remote key has 3 parts. 1. the buttons, 2. the switchblade/transponder and 3. the physical key blade.. So the plan was, to push out the roll pin that holds the blade into the switchblade part and swap that into one of the switchblades from my set of keys, thus creating a second key, at least as far as the car was concerned.. I expected to have to go back through the forscan procedure to recode the key as it said i had 10sec to insert the second key during the process.. turns out I didn't, i put the key in the ignition and it started the car right up! checked forscan anyway and now there are 2x keys coded to the car. swapped the complete switchblade from key #2 into the now working buttons from key #1 and now we have 1 key that works fully and one coded switchblade with no buttons and no blade.. does that make sense??!!
I was unable to get the car to do the button coding thing for the locks again, so I know if the buttons he has are just FUBAR or not, but I suspect so, so the plan is to use my second key and a new blade to create a second functional key for him.
Sorry that's a lot of reading, hope it marked sense and helps anyone else in the same boat,,,

So I had issues doing the door dance to program one of mine. It just wouldn't work! Then after a 10 mom drive it just started working...

Re: Remote Central Locking - not working...
The last couple of times that it didn't work for members on here it was due to the "two keys" being an original key and a cloned copy, so the system could only see the same key twice

I am going to try again another day. Like you say it may just need a drive. He has 2 other cars so the 8 doesn't get used very often.

As keys/fobs are trusted by the car, rather than the other way around, you can have the same fob open as many cars as you like.
At least one dealer used to pair a spare "workshop" fob to every customer car they sold or had in for work.

Wouldn't that ever have the unintended problem of opening.... well, all of them that are in the dealership at that moment in time? that'd be amusingwarpc0il wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:03 pmAs keys/fobs are trusted by the car, rather than the other way around, you can have the same fob open as many cars as you like.
