OEM Engine Mounts

Post by RichT_Derby »

Hi,
My RX8 has a vibration in the cabin while parked up in neutral (gear stick and rear view mirror shake) and I've been told it's probably the engine mounts. Car is 17 years old.

I've seen RRP and Infinity Rotary sell mounts, does anyone else sell new or refurbished OEM mounts?

Thanks,
Rich

Or you can buy some poly urethane jollop , and drill out / modify your worn out ones to restore them

- they are not as good as a stock mount but considerably cheaper ( about £20 in materials)

I have as above tiger sealed mounts before. Not on an rx8 though and doing that would probably still give the vibrations you currently feel due to the firmness of filled mounts

Fuming at myself for letting bigpetes mounts disappear from under my nose.
Racing beat Europe's are nearly £350 a pair, same as RRPs version. Do rx8 oc members get a discount anywhere?

Is a threshold for duty or extra fees? I was charged £192 for the engine mounts.

I just mentioned the worst case scenario as here https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty but clearly this doesn’t always happen on imports.

Has that been lowered recently? I had it in my head that it was £165 and the mounts fell under that value by just a smidge perfectly. Maybe it was always £135 and I just got lucky! I’m well aware that it’s hit and miss as to what you pay for some reason. But yeah, I never had to pay a pennie extra. Was a tip from Mihail, good option for getting a brand new OEM coolant tank too FYI….

It depends what the seller declares as the value and the method of importing as not every item is checked by customs making it a bit of a lottery.

It also depends on the category of item that the invoice appears to show, as different categories carry different duty levels.

That website isn't "worse case" as the carriers, such as DPD, UPS, Parcel Force, etc also take a collection fee for handling the charges. Basically they just deliver a ransom note...

See the later pages of this thread to see the massive variations in charges, for the same items, sent but the same seller, from Australia to the UK [-X

Can you not buy them from the dealer, sometimes they surprise you! I bought a set from an eBay seller. I think they were a rotary specialist in Norfok/Suffolk? Can't find their name at the mo.

Racing beat can't offer a discount due to what they have to pay Mazda for them. Although it's usually the driver's side that fails first. I don't actually know if zero, one or both mounts need changing, just was told that was most likely the cause of the vibration when I was chatting to RRP after they'd done the ignition coils. I've spent a grand on a master service reset, coils and now these mounts since I got the car so wallet needs a lie down.

Update us if you have to pay upon delivery. Be interesting to see if it is a lottery. I bought a brand new coolant tank from Mihail and I know he didn’t pay anything extra on that either.

If you don’t end up needing them, I’m sure at some point you will. Or if you need the money back I’m sure you won’t be out of pocket by selling them on via the forum.

Fingers crossed for you.
