OEM coil pack TIS or CDI

Post by Mark1Peachey »

Hello,

As I’m new to the forum I would first just like to say hello and thank you for hopefully the help and knowledge that I’m sure this forum has. I would also like to apologise if I have posted this in the wrong section as I’m still finding my way round the platform.

My question is does anyone know if the OEM coils are TIS or Cdi format? I have used them on an non wankle application and now it has come to the time for the engines ECU to be written the question has been asked “ Are they TIS or CDI”

Many kind regards and thanks,

Mark.

I think you mean "TCI" instead of "TIS".

In which case, I'm pretty certain you want TCI, not CDI.

But, if anyone knows for sure, please do override.

I would expect Carl to know, having developed the Ryan Rotary replacements.

Thank you, for the warm welcome and quick replies.

As you rightly say 13Black I'm hoping they are not CDI as this would be a major issue but trying to find out an exact answer lead me here.

Sounds like Carl could be the man who might make my day if they aren't CDI !!!!!

Kind regards, Mark.

They are definitely not Capacitor Discharge Ignition, just plain simple old induction coils (with integrated charge/ignitor circuits) :thumleft:
Phil's subtle sunlight silver - stronger, faster, with added red bits and stuff engine donor!
Operation Mint - Kuro preservation project
The pimped out Glacier White XE - quintessential British motoring from Jaguar

As above just triggered induction coils with their own amplifiers, give 'em 12v and a signal from the ECU for your duration and trigger and you're good.

Thats great news!! Really grateful your help on this matter. Have spent a bit of time designing a coil per plug design for an older non wankle engine but using the RX8 coils so really hoped that they would be ok to be used with my programmable ECU.

Massive thanks to you all for your help.

Mark.
