SOHN/COFS Gasket

Post by rotatopotato »

So I may be looking to move my SOHN from one RX-8 to another, something which probably doesn't really tend to happen, and as such there doesn't seem to be replacement gaskets available. Has anyone done this, and what did you do? Re-use the gasket, cut a new one out of appropriate gasket material (please share the details!), or use a sealant of some kind?

SOHN or COFS?

rrp cofs uses the oem gasket, SOHN uses a paper gasket.

the former you can reuse, the latter i haven't a clue lol.

Ah I thought they were all based off the same design. Couldn't say but doubt it is RRP.

Good to know. I assume it is a SOHN, not a COFS then. I'll find out for sure when I come to remove it from the 192. If its a paper gasket I'd like to think I could use a sealant instead, but I can always get some gasket paper if needs be.

The clearances in the Sohn design assume that it's fitted with the original paper gasket.

It might put more side thrust on the OMP drive if fitted without.

I only apply grease to the gasket, as that saves any issues if it has to be removed and replaced at a later date.
