I think you can count them on the fingers of one head
unless you have a charger on there 205 seems to be the record for an NA engine

I’ve got a really old engine that made 210, will probably make abit more with some different parts and a fresh tune.
All of the rotors, none of the compression

Re: 220whp +
My old engine made 177 at Charlie’s Surrey Rollin Road.
Hopefully the new build and a Supercharger will post it over 220.

Re: 220whp +
There have been a couple around the 215whp mark on the RR/MAP dyno, from memory.
I don't recall any being 220whp and over NA. Though I believe it's possible, it might be at the expense of midrange.

PeteH's set up was pretty extreme and got to 205 ish on the dyno day.
However plenty of Barry Boy Pistonheads adverts have pulled over 250 with just a K&N Typhoon, some stickers and a fat b!tch sitting on the bonnet, so who knows what's possible?

Re: 220whp +
Just a word of warning that Dyno results are highly dependent on the individual Dyno and operator’s parameters and therefore that comparing results from different Dynos and operators is a dangerous business. I forget the exact figure, but a few years ago I got a massive result using a cup of tea with the Dyno’s temperature sensor.
Of course, the OP limits the question to one Dyno, so comparisons are valid for those cars that have used it.

Re: 220whp +
Wasn't on RR but ours made 212whp with a dodgy wheel bearing/dragging caliper and a base map on a similar hub-dyno setup - I'd be amazed if that alone wasn't costing 5bhp given the wobble on it
Can't remember what it made at the wheels when it had the map fine tuned and new mechanical bits on it but it was also a different dyno so not too comparable unfortunately, I know it went from 244 to 268bhp flywheel but I don't trust the wheel dynos as much as the hub ones.

Wheel, Horse, Power.
WHEEL!
Without trying to sound silly, I'm old you know.
Or at least let's just take me as a no idea about cars but been to a rolling day event. Well, fair few. no no, no idea right.
Hub dyno and then ya usual rolling dyno. Well, hub bolted to the hub right? Then, Rolling, well, your wheels that are bolted to the hub but this time rolling over the, yeah, rollers!
Is there at any point anything connected to anything in the or on the engine like say the crank pulley?
Yay? Nay?
So in as simple as poss forum, any kind of "Horse Power" reading is from a form of a spinning wheel/hub driven device regardless yes?
I'm not asking for a "friend", there is a lot of clever people here and this isn't a targeted post. This at the "fly" and at the "wheel" is kinda like the late 90's my Ford Escort RS has 240bhp or the Max Power Mag Renault 5 GT Turbo running 370hp on a CJ1 Push Rod, which funny enough the bloody LS Motors all these years on from a late 70's design are a push rod set up's! But, you know, LS................
So humour me for a minute and explain why the barrel being spin'ed by the wheel's in the most basic forum is then told as power at the flywheel then re worked out to the wheels and yet the hub dyno which is also by the wheels but yes minus tyre slip is then stated "at the wheels"?

Re: 220whp +
Wheel horse power from the RR hub dyno measures the level of power/torque that is actually getting through to the wheels (hub). E.g. engine produces 250, but losses due to friction via the gearbox and drive train then reduce this to 220.
Rolling road dynos measure the wheel power too but add another variable - the tyres and their rolling resistance etc. They then let the rollers 'run down' to measure the drag of the drive train system to estimate the power back at 'the fly'.
RR don't measure the drag to produce an 'at the fly' figure, they just use the lower 'at the hub' figures - hence very few getting over 200.
So Mazda measured the hp at 231 at the fly, but they generally only make 165-175 at the hub in standard form. A drive train loss of 55-65hp if you believe the 231 figure
So our chap here with 220 at the hub probably means he's getting 260+ 'at the fly' with his ported rebuild and mods

Re: 220whp +
With a hub mounted dyno it is only the torque at the rear hubs that can be measured, the wheel and engine HP values are calculations based on the torque value. The Wheel HP can be taken as accurate as its calculation does not include any estimate for transmission losses.
With a roller dyno the wheel size, tyre pressure, roller inertia all come into play and as such the values for HP & torque can vary significantly depending on how these are accounted for in setting up the dyno, transmission losses in both cases for the same car would be the same.
I remain sceptical regarding 220whp as that is really FI territory and equates to c270hp plus at the flywheel.
How does it drive?

Re: 220whp +
The car drives well, only real issue is the a misfire kind of feeling around 4-5k rpm mark that Bridgeports seem to make.
Done some gps runs using draggy for 100-200 kph and it's done it in 16 seconds gps
It's as fast as stage 2 mk6 gti,
Faster than full bolt on Mugen dc5 type r without a map
They do a calculation of hp x 1.15 to get the fly HP so around mid 250 range

Re: 220whp +
Thats not the correct calculation. The hub and flywheel hp numbers are calculated from the hub torque which is the only value that can be measured. HP cannot be measured at the hub.osman wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 2:13 pmThe car drives well, only real issue is the a misfire kind of feeling around 4-5k rpm mark that Bridgeports seem to make.

Re: 220whp +
15% transmission loss from Flywheel to Wheel is about right for RWD.
Perhaps not a "calculation" in an engineering sense, as much as a fudge factor to estimate (for whatever reason) a Flywheel figure would be around.
Of course HP can be measured at the hub. Wheel Horse Power (WHP) measured at the hub is still HP.
I think what you mean is, Brake Horse Power (BHP, or Flywheel HP) cannot be measured at the hub, which is of course correct.
I feel like this thread is starting to get rather fluffy and silly.
