So then Gents
my rexi has developed a small rattle on a cold start that lasts a second or two at most
if it was a normal engine I'd be inclined to think its a big-end but its not a normal engine is it?
so I 1st thought it was a AC idler pulley and replacing that pulley for my used spare made the noise stop, result! Or so I thought
fast forward another 4K miles or so and its back so this time I bought a new pulley and fitted that but it hasn't helped
I can feel no slack in any of the ancillaries but have not tried starting it up with no belt at all
also the oil pressure is generally excellent ( 4 bar at 4k when hot and 1.5 bar at idle) and doing a full throttle crank before starting the engine ( so building up the oil pressure 1st ) makes no difference.
my next step is to check the engine mount for signs of contact and also run the engine with no ancillary belt for a test
I open to the floor and your suggestions

Re: slight rattle on start-up
My turbo one does that
I’ll look at the SSV to start

Re: slight rattle on start-up
Best way to stop ssv rattle it's to place a small piece of hard plastic tube over the ssv actuator arm stop, this is where the rattle occurs the arm rests against the ssv stop and tends to rattle, the plastic tube stops the metal in metal contact
