Mazdaspeed Side Skirts Accessories

Post by LeeW »

Absolute long shot, but don't suppose any body on here has the paper pattern set from the mazdaspeed side skirt install accessories? Or have any useful installation experience/tips for me?

They are finally painted apparently and now he's trying to be shy about fitting them. I gave him the instructions last year but I think there was only a couple of the brackets with my second hand skirts and none of the accessories, so I might try and source some bits to make it easier...

Any help will be appreciated,
Kuro 174/500.

I wouldn’t get too hung up about fitting the skirts with all the original fitting clips, if you could source them anyway which I doubt without a phenomenal costly and protracted effort.
I removed and fitted two sets if MazdaSpeed side skirts on different cars and the only “fittings” for both sets were simple cranked brackets made from 2mm steel plate pop riveted to the skirt bottom surface and screwed into the car underside with self drilling, self tapping screws and then two speed fasteners at each end.
By adjusting the angle of the bends on the brackets the skirt can be made to fit snugly against the sill and a small fillet of Tigerseal or Sikafkex completes the install neatly.
Hopefully the attached photos will show what I am referring to above. Difficult to photograph as the skirt is only about 4” off the ground!

Sparingly to seal the top edge. Mine had a real dollop on them creating a bond at least 1/2” wide inside and were removing them without damage was tense.

If all the tabs are present they don’t need much. Originally they have a sort of foam tape layer that bonds them to the side of the car but you rarely see that nowadays as most are not in original paint

Thanks guys, this is sort of what I was hoping to hear. I may just take them off him and do it myself then.

So for some reason I've already loss both self tappers on 3 out of the 4 brackets on the passenger side of the car...?! Don't know why, hopefully not because the sills are rotting inside, but I'm pretty sure they're fine.

Is there any reason why I should just rivet them up into the sill the same the skirt?

Just going up a size in self tapper would be my choice.

The choice is yours, difference is screws are removable easily, pop rivets less so.

Ok so slightly embarrassing……

It would appear that the screws didn’t fall out. They were just never done in the first place?!?!

Somehow we managed to forget to do three out of the four brackets on one side….. I think we have have gotten side tracked with sikaflexing the hell out of everything and forgot to finish….!!!

This shows the state of my consciousness at the moment……

Let me know if anyone needs help changing their brakes….
